Anti farmers / gold sellers mechanism ?

World of Warcraft has a token system which is a nice approach to prevent farmers and gold sellers from destroying game's economy. What are your ideas to neutralize those pests. Yes, i know being a farmer doesn't mean you destroy the economic. But being a farmer and selling gold for real money is harmfull as fu..k for the game. By the way do we already know something about currency and reward system at all ?

  • That's a tough one. According to my WoW playing wife, the token idea was okay at the beginning, but since prices have skyrocketed on the AH recently, the gold sellers seem to be returning in abundance.
  • We dont have enough information yet on what the currency system will be like.
Maby they will use a barter system i give you 5 chickens you give me a sword.

That said i hope they put in a hard systems goldspammers get insta perma banned so they need to buy a new game. hopefully also banning there payment system so they need to change that account aswell.

And for buyers the samething you get caught you get perma banned and have to buy a new game.

less people that buy less people that will get there account hacked by scammers and less new account will be bought to keep on selling.

The barter system would be actually a pretty cool way to try out an economy especially if economic values were based on the needs of the npcs in the specific node you were in if you were trading with npcs at the time.

  • That and they plan on actually having real live GM's in the game. Nearly unheard of in recent years.

  • Was asked and answered by the devs in one of the recent video Q&As. There will NOT be a token system similar to WOW or EVE as they felt it messes with the player driven economy too much. Anti-farming and gold seller/spam has also been addressed. The intent at least initially is to have in game GMs, not as the only prevention/deterrent, but to also squash stuff quick.

Think they will make the security systems for the game so we dont get hacked or get hit by maleware. dunno if they will also make systems to counter goldsellers
  • Well there is a very simple solution for that : permanent ban the acounts of both seller and buyer.

Right from the beginning of WoW they would ban for selling or buying gold. There were also many actual GM's in game. Both of these things failed to curb gold sellers, at least up until MoP, when I stopped playing seriously.
  • Hopefully being a sub to play game any gold sellers/rule breakers etc will simply have their accounts banned and their bank details flagged on a different system by intrepid so they cannot use them again to sub.
Good luck spamming new accounts when you would have to set up a new bank account every time to get in the game, at least this is what i would love to see.

Do something similar to what BDO does... you just don't let anything be tradable from player to player

Everything has to go through the market.

That will diminish the open world sandbox nature of the game, in my opinion at least.
  • The problem about chinese gold farmers is they are already prepare for bans etc. The profit from selling gold using single account is high enough to buy several copys of the game. They are organize. I wish devs will talk about it later. There are tons of questions i need to know the answer before i spend my time playing AoC.
  • We must destroy them. Do not hesitate and show no mercy. Alas, the gold farmers will be no more. And we will finally live in... peace.

In all seriousness, I am unsure how the Intrepid team will deal with gold farmers. My guess would be active GMs will go Negan on them. "I will shut that shit down, no exceptions." and now they have to spend more money in making new accounts. So far, that is the only response I have seen. I don't want them to add gold tokens, as wow did, because that is a pay to win mechanic and it hurts the game economy. What is the point of spending time crafting and working on an artisan class, when all you have to do is pay a little extra money each month to get all the gold you need.

So far I like how things are set up: You rise and fall by your actions and the actions you take in your community. Simple as that.

  • Remember, no pre order and no gold from a nontrusted source that charges you money for it.

Having had an account hacked before by a gold seller, I'd be pretty peeved if they looked to this solution first.

No I've never bought any gold online, it's kind of pointless to me you get all you need for free in game by persistence, I think I just had rubbish security at the time.

I'd love to hear more about the security ideas, ie two factor identification? etc etc
  • 1. Positively identified gold seller PCs get their own special flag which means killing them does not result in corruption, and they also get bumped to minimum level.
    2. Anyone who kills them gets to loot all their equipment and cash.
    3. They auto-rez in the stocks of the nearest node of reasonable size.
    4. Free eggs and rotten vegetables supplied, plus prizes for the most creative verbal insults.
    5. Any other PCs on the same account get an auto goldseller flag.

Unfortunately, this does not answer the question of identifying the individuals correctly in the first place, but it might be amusing!
  • don't mind players farming but when it gets to bots and gold sellers ,hopefully there is  a system to report as intrepid is mmorpg players sure they have spoke about it

Yes, gold farmers, cheaters, account hacking, farming, botting, and gray market sales of virtual items and currency....

Intrepid are partnered with Panopticon Labs to provide advanced fraud detection. I think this will cover detection of bots and fraudulent behavior, such as unusual trading behaviors.

I mind bots farming. They usually are the back ups for the gold sellers.
The same ones would be there every day. Report them and another appeared running the same courses

I used to take great pleasure in killing bots over and over when they respawned as I was farming for needed mats.

That would cause a great problem with the corruption system so that's a no no in Ashes.

What ever punishment they deal out to them has to be harsh and fast to keep up with them.

I hope the reporting system in Ashes is good. They promised REAL live GMs to be available to take care of them also.   Nothing like real GMs in the world.
Long ago they were great assets for a multiple of reasons.

  • @Valkeries @Snuvin They won't have to buy a new copy of the game. There is no boxed edition. They'd just have to create a new account with a different mail address, different credit card and that's it.
