Crafting and gathering questions

Is AoC aiming for an Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies dynamic crafting system, or the more traditional WoW recipe format?

As an fan of fishing and such in most games, will there be a chance of gaining rare loot such as gear, items, or pets other than the normally expected resource, or will all I gather is fish?  Imagine gathering a rare pixie/sprite from wood gathering that gives a bonus to said gathering.  Or a lucky goldfish that increases chance of finding the One Ring.

Sorry if these questions have already been hashed and rehashed. I cant seem to get any sort of search function working for these forums.

  • I don't know how the crafting system is going to work specifically, and i don't think they've released any information on the actual mechanics. I think all they've released so far is the fact that they want to make crafting and gathering professions meaningful and use the 3 pillars of gathering-refining-crafting to make it so you can be only master of 1 or a jack-of-all trades.

But yes i do think they'll make it so that if you fish, you can catch a rare fish as pet or to breed as an underwater mount, since they do want to put in animal husbandry which can be pretty awesome if they do it right.
  • There is still a lot we don't know but we do know things like seasons and activities that happen in the world will have an impact on what we can gather etc :) thus we will need to store or travel to other places for raw materials to keep up crafting through seasons when materials are few in the world
