Player / Crafting Animations

For crafting, I would enjoying walking past crafting areas and see people who are crafting actually have animations to show exactly that, even if representative.

For black-smithing a weapon a basic animation, for an armor a different general animation

For opening your inventory, see someone sit and open a bag.
Bag representative of inventory size.

For opening a map, see a player stop and open a map.

Has there been any discussion, and/or proposals on the visuals for simple animations & crafting?

  • There hasn't but it's the little things that make a game great in my honest opinion. I would love to see crafting animations for sure. Other games do the map animations (I'm pretty sure WoW does)

I think it's too early to know yet, but I could be wrong
  • With the information that the game will be running on a modified version of the Unreal Engine, you can infer some of these answers.  ARK SE runs on UE also, you can see when a person is looking at a map in hand, and while harvesting you can see a pick or axe animation.  So there are map and gathering animations possible for sure at least.
  • Yeah like Sims style, the character hits the craftingtable with hammer few times, then suddenly a mini-robot appears in the middle of the table.
  • How about no
  • More animations are never a bad thing. Seeing other players actually MAKING things would breathe some life into the world.
  • I think it would be cool to see some crafting animations and I do not see why they couldn't do it. It would just make the game feel more realistic and I don't see how that could be a bad thing.
  • Ooooh, being able to 'Feed a fire' to keep it going longer

Well UE should technically make it very easy to have these things, as it is very modular, they could start out with standard animations and slowly upgrade (if need be).

Aye it would be very nice with some animations to show actions, if nothing else to show whether people are afk and such. There could also be a few afk animations like sitting, lying, making a campfire, playing music or whatever.

Even better: If theres several people in an area being afk (or maybe doing the same action) They would combine their aimations. Imagine 5 people afk in an area, one character builds a fire and everyone sits down around it, even though they are afk. It would add so much atmosphere :)
  • EQ2 has crafting animations, so I'm expecting them here in Ashes.  What EQ2 lacks is variety in AFK animations.  Love the ideas being expressed here.
