Animal Husbandry

So recently it came to my attention that the animals they talked about in Kickstarter will not be given to us.. Which makes sense because if that happens it becomes P2W, so instead we get the skins for the specific animals.. correct me if I'm wrong.

How difficult will Animal Husbandry be?
It would be a game of patience one would think, something to come home to after a long day of fighting, you go over to your raven bear sheep aka reareep.
This is my rendition of him..his name is Abu he is very snuggle and misunderstood, he gives BEAR HUGS... see what I did there?
(Sheep Fur, Bear body, Raven head)

I'm not sure if it was clarified or not (Animal/Pet Husbandry), but you can only assume so.
So of course you will have to go out and tame all these different types of animals, so I was wondering if you walk up to a specific animal or pet it will show their gender and if it's tamable, similar to Riders of Icarus but without the gender part. Because in order to reproduce you would need a male and a female.
Also, will most animals be tamable, as in, could you tame a deer, put a saddle on it, and ride off into the summer sunset?
Similar to the mechanics of Riders of Icarus again you would end up in the middle of a mini game once mounting them, and there would be a chance of taming them or not.. and if you fail they could either run away or attack you.
And animal husbandry isn't limited to only acquiring live animals, eggs come into place as well, for our reptilian, amphibian, or the occasional mammal friends.
Along with that "GOLDEN DRAGON EGG" that appears every red moon...
Personally I am UBER excited for Animal Husbandry in this game, I'm not familiar with any games that have this aspect to it.. (If you know any please tell me!)
Do any of you have ideas on how it'll be?
I sort of rambled what was on my mind..I'm sorry!~

Really nice post @Babe. I don't think much has been revealed about animal husbandry apart from there being discoverable species and some kind of "breeding tree". This sounds fascinating and I can't wait to hear more.
  • I have no idea, but I do enjoy speculation:

My guess would be that once you take on Animal Husbandry you start small, anything from basic life stock (Chickens, Cows, even Mules)) and work up to the much more dangerous animals ((Dire wolves, Owlbears and more exotic creatures)).

It makes sense that animal genders would be made clear, and maybe only those who are into Animal Husbandry, or anyone who has wildlife skills ((Rangers?)) can tell. Otherwise you run the risk of offending that animal for assuming it's gender ((It's a joke, lighten up)). I think it would be pretty hilarious if you start out not knowing genders and you have to learn.

Cute story: When I lived with my grandparents for a short time, we were working on a rabbit pin in their little backyard mini farm. We got a pair of rabbits and threw them in the cage together. Rabbits being rabbits they went at it... What confused us was they took turns doing the humping. It didn't take us long to figure out we had bought two males.

Anyways, I also agree with you about animal capturing: Chance to run or attack, depending on how dangerous the animal is. To further this suggestion, there shouldn't be an XP meter with how other profession systems work ((Like mining iron ore. After x amount of times mining the ore, you become proficient at it and the skill goes from red-> yellow->green->grey)). There should always be that chance that an animal will run or fight or go with you willingly. It adds to the challenge "I'll get you, you pesky wabbit!" and this should diffidently hold true for rare/epic animals.

For cross breeding, I would love to see interesting combinations that make a new type of pet/mount altogether. In a popular book series follow a Drow Elf ((Dungeons and Dragons)) there was this eccentric wizard who cross bred a frog and a horse and he named it Puddlejumper. This mount was later used in a war between Drow and Dwarves. It was a great deal of fun reading about the wizard literally jumping into the battle throwing spells into the enemy ranks. It was amusing and epic all at once. If Intrepid Studios added something like this to the game, I would focus hardcore on Animal Husbandry.

I'm sure the Devs read these forums, so I hope they find your ideas as inspiring as I do! As a completionist, I'd love to while away endless hours capturing and breeding to get the rarest species. Thanks to you, my AoC play time has just doubled! :worried:

Your stories are so enticing! And I agree with everything you're saying, for when you said "red-> yellow->green->grey." You mean as you first start out, you would be grey and work your way up to red when you maxed out your skills?
I'm also uber excited for the crossbreeding, I wonder what the limitations are?

For example, this beautiful creature aka Dawnbreaker, animals like this are fantastic.. I wonder if they will have a book of all the animals you can find to mix together to create a certain animal.. like "We found this ancient book of all these extinct animals" and it would be our duty as the player characters to bring them back to this world..

I wonder if you would have to examine the animal to see its gender first? I'm sure people would be against it but I would think it would be more immersive y'know?
And that level progression from smaller easier animals to larger more dangerous animals makes sense.. it would be a way of level progression.. or you could make it so that each time you level.. the easier it is to breed animals.
And imagine if you have a dozen breeders in your guild.. and they were all professionals, your whole entire guild would have mounts and a higher advantage than most other guilds.

(Sorry my reply is all over the place haha)
