Discussion - On Guilds

I'm so stoked guys, everyone here has absolutely been brimming with positivity. So many great ideas too. I hope Intrepid is reading in and liking them.

Let's talk about guilds now.

I love that there will be guild leveling system. My friends and I typically play as a small guild making friends along the way, but I love when a game implements something like this. It gives me a channel to contribute to the guild through my normal gameplay.

What are some of your favorite guild-related features and what new ideas do you have that will take guilds in MMOs to the very next level?

  • Just give me a reason to level the guild other than unlocking some cosmetics!
  • @Krojak Doesn't levelling the guild mean you can have more members? Sure they mentioned that somewhere...
  • Can choose between having more members or increasing benefit for members (can't remember whether it is stats or what) So a small guild will have larger benefit while larger guild have lesser benefit.

You are correct. There's going to be trade offs. They mentioned the Zerg vs Buff option in a live stream.

I think this is great because I love small close know guilds working together to beat a Zerg.

Then we all have a beer!

A guild has to give me a good reason to join them and I'll hide the chest of cosmetics so they have to offer better benefits to the guild.

The dev's have mentioned that there will be guild housing. Here's my bucket list...

I'd suggest this be implemented as a tiered guild benefit that first unlocks when a guild qualifies for a guild hall. It should be obtainable through difficult quests and crafting along with significant monetary investment.

Each tier of guild housing would unlock the accomodation for each rank in the guild, ranging from shabby, rough hewn quarters right up to the opulent residences of the guild leadership, and of course the palatial keeps of the king/queen in guild castles.

Player housing will be prohibitively expensive for new players, so I think this will help in that regard. There will of course be slumlords!

I really, yes most definitely, I have to stop drinking anything, especially hot, when I read these forums.
  • I think guild housing and the castle system should be combined. Such as castles are unlocked by guilds that not only prove loyalty to their patron node but are also active in it: raids, caravan and sieges crafting and hiring crafters etc. after X amount of favor and achievements are unlocked then they can progress to a castle. All guilds should be able to obtain this and not only the big ones.
  • They've mentioned guild alliances. I wonder if this will be a system where you can fight alongside other guilds, so you can remain a small tightknit guild but still fight in major battles, or if it's just a chat thing were you can share a voice / text chat.  Personally I hope its more than just a chat thing.

I do too. I hope it's a system that also shares financial rewards and achievements when the guilds work together.

When you level a guild, you choose the type of progression you want to work on. I guess like a skill tree of sorts i guess. One of the option shared is increasing guild member capacity.

So a small guild might get guild bonuses to other effects faster while a larger guild might have to spend their first few progression points on increasing capacity.

Yeah, I wonder if an alliance takes down a castle or metropolis. Will the server message (if any) say XXX guild has conquered the castle, or XXX alliance.

I'm hoping it's the latter and alliances can decide on their own alliance leaders etc, allowing for small guild to band together like in the idea you shared.
  • I looove my guild already and we are going to be small with ~30
Mostly I love having a small community in which I know everyone very well ^^ I love completing challenges with small guilds and just having fun xD I don't mind if we are not top of the leader board but aslong as we are tops for fun that's all I care about xD
i enjoy alliances aswell and look forward to see how intrepid will introduce alliances in Ashes :3
Remember me when you make alliances :P

In past MMOs, I usually start off with a small guild of RL friends and then we eventually end up having to merge into a larger guild to access content. It'd be nice to have the option to experience both worlds!
  • There are so many posts and so much stuff to read through its so easy to miss stuff (then I forget it anyway)
So reading through the stuff you guys have posted here, I'm even more stoked....
Really want to be a slum landlord though....
  • I'm just looking forward to guild halls that are as extensive as those from EQ2. It'll be nice if we can have rooms attached to guild halls, perhaps. Your own little personal space within the guild hall.
  • I would love to have guild halls in places like graveyards or old ruins which give you bonuses and weakness when compared to ones in cities

Like a giant crypt for a guild hall? That won't be creepy at all.
  • I do hope the Guild hall have land around them which will allow you to showcase your achievements via monuments/statues, basically trophies that can be displayed to enhance your guild prestige in the world. Same could be done for specific players so you could truly appreciate who your neighbours are. I'm a big fan of housing in MMOs but I do not like the way the recent MMOs have implemented the concept.
  • I would prefer it that you don't have to have x number of people in guild to unlock next guild lvl that is the #1 killer of small guilds for me, restricting content from a small guild just because they are small

Definitely doesn't seem to be the case. You actually need to plan/spend guild progression points to increase your guild capacity to take in more members.

Small guilds won't have to waste progression points on capacity and can move on to the fun stuff quicker. I was super excited when I heard that, and quickly made plans to reform the Bandit Lords of Baubbleshire.

I'm definitely all in for guild leveling @Cyreph. Heh heh.

That does sound like a good way to do it
