"...my retired dad is online in an mmo for most of the day"

I aspire to be like your dad.  :)  It's not *that* far away (I'm a tad bit older than your YOUNG 38).  lol

@Glosterian I believe that age is less important in MMO community, as long as people are educated, interesting and fun to hang out with.
So welcome to the forums, friend. Hope you like it here.
I completely agree.  I'm certain if I never told anyone of my age (or if @Isende didn't tell them), they wouldn't guess.  I work at an IT Service Desk, on the phone most of the day.  Now and then the subject of age comes up (someone thinks they're older than me or something like that) and they're usually quite surprised to learn I'm about 20 years older than they think I am.

Actually, you reminded me: when I mentioned my age IRL in my ESO guild chat recently, there was almost a palpable sense of shock and awe that I could both play the game AND be alive at the same time! :)
    Nail. On the head.

Most of the folk I game with regularly, of course, know my age, but when it comes out in games, people are always like "Wait. You're a ... a girl (No, dear sweet youngling, I'm a woman)." *long pause* "And, um, you're, um ... mature." (Why yes, dear sweet youngling, I am "old." Go ahead, say it, it won't bother me, lol!).

    Silly younglings.
    sorry @Diura   :'(

    ROFL, aww bless Nagash...

    The shame
  • @Lilem for those qualities to be present in a player who is not old enough to drink is like a great white buffalo, hence people looking for others their age. But, I don't see a younger crowd joining in here. Not while it's being kick started. They won't be as prevalent as they may be in game

I actually posted in the guild section today that I am looking for mature players. I like to be one of the youngest if I can help it.... So if anyone plans on creating a more mature guild, keep me in mind
What do you seek in a guild?  If you're looking for a relaxed, friendly small family sort of environment @Isende or I would be happy to talk with you.

I am currently 37. I always look for us older folk when playing.
*chuckle*  "us older folk"...   You've got a ways to go before you hit "us older folk".  :D
Well, yes and no. Compared to most of the gaming community (that people pay attention to), he's old. Compared to us (that people don't tend to think about when they develop games) he's young. I think he's a very comfortable age, and you and I both know the 30s are SO much fun!

This is true. However, wisdom does not automatically come with age. I know plenty of older people who are ignorant, hold on to grudges for no reason, and generally do not behave like I hoped they would. But I'm only 26, so maybe I've yet to see something different.

Anyway, you're clearly not one of those people who grow older without growing up, and that's a good thing. I hope you'll find a group that you'll be truly comfortable with here in Ashes of Creation.
Conversely, I've known a great many younglings who are "old before their time," so-to-speak. I think it's much more a matter of mind/heart than it is a number.
  • @Glosterian, how are you this fine day? Are you getting all your Ashes questions answered?

So I've begun referring to the game as Ashes, rather than AoC (in deference to @intrepid). And every time I say "Ashes" the back of my insane mind automatically fills in with the phrase "Getting his/her ashes hauled ..."

    Yeesh. Shush, insane mind!
  • So great to have you here! I've seen a few white buffalo. ;)
  • Welcome grandpa!!! I look forward to crushing you with my superior reflexes.

Ha! Like it! Of course, this is the attitude of brash youth personified! My masses of personal wisdom, depths of understanding and increased awareness of  people's reactions over the many years means that you wouldn't stand...er, you know...er, where was I - damn...think I left me glasses somewhere. NURSE!

    * ties balloons to a walking frame to welcome @Glosterian to the fray*
    Welcome older person!

I'm of the mentally a toddler..  (what's that? Are we nearly there yet? Why can't I eat that or shove it up my nose?) Physically prematurely aged ilk, and legally somewhere in the middle. (Cough cough 38)

What's drawIng you to ashes the most?*

    Thank you Megs!

*Ha! 1) - The quality of the insults - and I really hope to emulate your father soon (5 years to go!) into full-time mmo-playing retirement!
    2) The way it seems to be offering a game which I can have some control over to play my own way - plus the way the players will be able to interact together to overcome, or react, to what the Game presents them, such as challenges arising, out of their control.

    Hi Possum!
Ah - different advice area for me (bereavement support) but that's exactly my working situation too - and a similar reaction from some callers!

Actually, Isende, I think I am...as far as any of us can, before actually playing the game. I've also found and joined the newly-founded 'Ashen Foundry' (created by Atropos who founded the very-well respected 'Tamriel Foundry' of ESO.) They have great respect and real hope for the game also.
At the moment, of course, we're all 'sat in the bus together' on the journey knowing we're not there yet and chattering excitedly. So far, I'm also maintaining that real hope...
  • Welcome to the community. Hope you have fun on the forums
