Hey gang - just posted here first time and been looking round...am really blown away by how inventive people's avatars and pics are! 
Where are the 'go-to' sites for such impressive avatar, and similar, creativeness?

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, it was Photoshop and a little time.

second and present one with paint.net, and although it's way more primitive and boring then some of the others it will have to do for the moment...
Paint is free and not difficult to use, I made my sign in an hour after downloading it.

Generally my avatars are sshots of characters I've made, over the years. Interestingly, thanks to @Possum's knowledge, skills, abilities, and understanding of my nature, I have every sshot I've ever taken in a game since 2010. His certainly go back further.

As for a sig? I'm still figuring out what I want as a sig. I think I've got the idea, and it'll most likely (again) come from previous games' sshots. But I'm ok with that, because my goal will be to develop something that represents my goals with this game, not just me, myself.  So ... yeah. Still in the dev phase :-D

Apart from the tavern, the many taverns and alehouses, you'll see me whiling away endless hours in the photoshop. Being a mage, one of my favorite things is the magic wand.

My avatar is a picture of something that I drew. My go to site is found by peering deep into ones soul where you'll find a fitting image for you

My avatar is just a silly possum picture from the web that made me laugh.  I figured a smiling possum represented me fairly well.

As for my signature, for a long time it was this...

Then, with the encouragement of a couple great community members (@Krojak & @Autumnwillow), I started playing around with a few websites and created my current signature.  It's had a few iterations, but I think I'm happy with it now.

The background is just a screen cap from one of Intrepid's awesome videos.  I paused the video and used the Windows snipping tool to grab the part I wanted.
 
I used https://cooltext.com for the name logo.
I used http://www.reduceimages.com/ to reduce the large Ashes of Creation & Intrepid logos down to an appropriate size.
I used http://freeforumsigs.com/sigmakerv3/index.php to put it all together and type the quote text.

My signature is a drawing I made for Ren'Kai race and Nükai race of the game in chibi form. For references, I used these published concept arts. I'm more likely to create some fanart by myself rather than using photoshop to morph pictures.



And my Avatar is just my Chinese name in white color with blue outer glow.
