Open World PvP - Caravans

Hi,

Just another random thread.

Thinking about caravans... I hope that:

1. There are choke points in the world where the attacker can get an advantage if they lay in ambush.  Since we don't know the caravan time and path, if you can see a caravan leave and guess the path, and then set an ambush at a choke point along that path, you should be able to advantage from the high ground, LOS, or something.
2. When you are defending a caravan, don't do it by proximity.  Let people go scout those choke points and come back and still be a defender the whole time.

On a different note, it'd be cool if intelligence gathering / espionage mechanics were built into the game.  Like, if you could get orphan kids to be your "little birds."

Comments

  • I will second that first point. I want a really cool choke hold that both caravan attackers are aware of, and caravan defenders are too. I want there to be stress and unease every time the caravan meanders its way through it. Is there an attack? Is it a false alarm?
  • My understanding (Could totally be incorrect) was that defenders of caravans wouldnt be tied to the caravan by mechanic, just invested in keeping it safe.

I see what you did there. @tugowar your new name will be known as Spider. I believe they talked a bit about those in the caravan knowing the departure times and route the caravan will take, allowing players to scout ahead and call reinforcements if need be.

As for choke points, I agree with you on that. Say the caravan is passing over a bridge and suddenly 20 players jump out of hiding and begin their assault or worse... you see an LOTR moment unfold and there is nothing you can do: Example. Moving along with your caravan minding your own business, as you would, and suddenly a horn sounds and you hear "Rohirrim!", you look to the hills in the east and there is just this wave of players riding their mounts down upon your caravan.

These kind of things excite me as a storyteller and I can't wait to be apart of that... even if I lose all my potions for market.

Yeah, caravan time and route is player set.

I've called myself a spymaster IRL.  I knows things.
