Racial Abilities

I'm really looking forward to see what racial abilities this game will be offering. Here are a few ideas I had for myself. 

1. Each main race will have an ability that is common to that race. Which are humans,elves,orcs, dwarves and tulnar so far.

2. Each sub-race of each main race will get a special racial ability derived from how they adapted to the world.

I 'm hoping for a large diversity in racial abilities. 

Some of my own thoughts are night vision for the Tulnar because they live underground. Maybe increased swim speed for the ones with tails. The Dunir Dawarves could have a bonus in blacksmithing or gem crafting. 

What are some racial abilities do you think we should be looking forward too. If you come up with some great ideas maybe the developers will use them. Can't wait to see what everyone will come up with. >:)

  • I'm actually a big fan of Racial Skills because I feel it give each race a bit more individuality. Some people feel it "traps" you into picking a specific race if you wish to play a certain role, and that may be the case if you want to min-max, but if that's not important to you, then why does it matter?

    Be a dwarf mage. Strike out into the world as an orc tailor. Make your elf the best miner that they can be!

    I would love to see less combat related racial skills and more crafting or even social specific ones. For instance, being an elf, you would have more affinity for crafting magical items, or being a dwarf you're just more adept at mining and blacksmiths as you stated. 

    It would be cool to have a race or two that can have a cosmetic racial skill such as Tulnar can blend into shadows or an elf can climb better. 
  • As long as they don't overdo it I'm cool for them to go hog wild. Really nothing better than races as such having unique variations. Especially considering the way each of them comes from different places with potentially drastically differing survival requirements.
  • Here is some info from the Devs that meshes in with @Nephalem's list:
    1. You'll have a racial augment that applies to your primary archetype skills.

    2. Races provide different stats bonuses.

    3. Some classes work better with specific races, but there is no race locking.
    As far as my wishlist goes, I'd hope that (sub) racial augments could also apply to professions.

    We Emperyean elves fancy ourselves as fine craftspeople; unlike those uncouth Py'rai elves with their grubby handed gathering skills!
  • Racial stat progression inherently affects the Artisan role as well as the Adventurer role.
  • @Nephalem One thing the devs mentioned is that there will be no crafting bonuses in the racial abilties. So a Dwarven or Elven blacksmith will be just as good.

    Glad to know, cause I wanted a human blacksmith and I was afraid it would have a big disadvantage in front of dwarven ones.

  • I'm an elf. My ability is to make everything I wear look good.  B)
  • some different augments on ability for each race .would be cool like dwarfs have a molten augment as good craters   
  • Undead having 90% resistance to arrow is a trait I always liked 
  • Personally something that always gets to me in MMO's is that every crafter ends up making the same items, the same appearance.... What would be cool is racial traits have an affect on recipies with slight variances be it attributes/skin. 

    I.e a dwarf would make a weapon different to how an elf would, so why not have that reflected in the skin or attributes of the weapon. For example an elf is often seem to be agile where as a dwarf is stronger but slower in most example. 

    Would make the market/shops alot more diverse as well but we will see
