[Information] Intrepid Studios and Development
Everything in this thread is subject to change as and when new information is released during the upcoming months. I’m a single dwarf and gathering this information and pulling together takes time so *gives a jug of ale* be patient!
This is not a discussion thread! This is information that I’ve collected from Streams (still to catch up with more). Discord answers still need to be added and more threads on various topics to come (like Trade/Leveling/Gear etc)! I'm working hard! I'm aware documents exist already but wanted something for the forums!
Intrepid Studio Philosophy
Intrepid Studios are designing a world that is “reactive” to the player. Community is at the heart of their development and their “four pillar system” helps to ensure a responsive world that creates meaningful play.
The four pillar system is the ‘core philosophy’ of Intrepid Studios. When designing and developing Ashes of Creations the team refer to the four pillar system to analyse if the design “helps or harms” the four pillars. If any designs discussed by the team impacts any of the pillars in a harmful way they idea is discarded.
The four pillars are
Economy
Nodes
Meaningful Conflict
Narrative
Each pillar works together to create a risk/reward experience that is truly an enjoyable experience.
Not P2W
It has been confirmed that Intrepid Studios will not go down a pay to win route. They are looking at Ashes of Creation as a long term investment. Their experience (positive and negative) of mmos in the past is what is driving them to create Ashes of Creation “a game we’ve always dreamed of playing””.
Test Dates
Alpha - Family, friends and invite only is looking to start by end of 2017
Alpha 1 - Latest is Dec 2018 - but they aim to start ASAP in 2018 but they wish to present an alpha which is enjoyable - so at that point will it become available.
Engine
Unreal Engine 4 allows Intrepid to add their own code to achieve what they want with open world pvp etc. It also allows them to create a beautiful world with the talent of the studio artists. This is why unreal engine 4 has been chosen as their engine because it offers the best flexibility without the need to build their own engine. Engineers with Intrepid have over 15 years of experience with mmorpgs and have done networking codes before. Since Intrepid are have access to modify coding - security against bots and gold selling is core to their development - so rather than adding defense systems at the end - it is part of the development.
Intrepid Studio Day Play/Events
Dynamic events and more content to keep the diversity of world scenarios are looking at quarterly updates but some of the “stuff” the team put in now might not show until someone triggers it in 2 years time.
Main events that happen are timed and random.
An event can happen when triggered by a player - but if players haven’t triggered an event a “random” event can occur to keep activity circulating. Intrepid want to ensure that content keeps happening.
There are narratives, events and tasks. No dailies as such. Tasks are the like the fillers e.g something has happened in the world I need to do something about it or something negative will happen. and they won’t be the same very day
They plan to have GM run events
Servers
Ashes of creation will be separate servers (no channels) and each server will have its own population
Accounts
Multiple accounts are OK at the moment as long as it's not botting and not stolen.
There will be no alt barriers and you can move gear from alt to alt however there is no mechanism in place for that yet and still being discussed.
Additional
No voice over because of the expense and they would prefer funds to go to other systems first.
