I just registered and have done some reading on the game. I hope the game is good though I'm a bit worried that there will be too much of a gap between people who play casually and those who play the game hardcore.

Yeah, every game has a large divide between hardcore and casual players, in certain areas of the game. That can't be avoided, really. If there were no benefit to it, there wouldn't be anyone putting in hardcore hours.
The good side of things is that the devs have stated they are striving to make *any* time you spend in Ashes worth your while, so casual players may not even notice any detriment. Depends on what your game focus is though, I suppose.
