Nodes: What happens when the node owner isn't online?

A few things that come to mind after watching a few Q&A sessions:

What happens if your node is attacked when you are offline?

Would you have to rely solely on hired help (NPC or PC) to save your bacon or can your character divert itself to AI to help defend it when you aren't there to control them?

Lets face it when you log off it would seem to make sense that your avatar would still be doing something and not simply just disappear from the world when you aren't around. Especially for people that have limited time frames to play.

Also do nodes degrade over time say if the owner takes off for long periods of time or just never comes back?

Sor tof related to the above, does hired help have some sort of expiration and/or upkeep charge that would keep them from perpetually tending your lands?

Sorry if I rambled on a bit there.

No one owns nodes. nodes are towns, villages, and Metropolia.

If you are a casual player who has limited time the best option would be to have housing or an apartment inside the town.  Your housing outside can't be attcked unless there is a siege on the town and the bad guys won.

There is a preparation time for a siege/attack and siege/defend and it will last over a period of time. The siege itself will last over a period of time too so lots of people will be able to take part :) Node "leaders" will be a player run government that's elected by node citizens. Nodes become easier to degrade if not maintained because it's weaker :D You can hire help but that'll be down to the player run government and resources the node has available. If you prepare well you'll succeed in defending if you don't your node will degrade.

There is no such thing as "Node Owner". There is "Node Governor" instead. And let's say the Mayor of the node developed it well enough with defences and everything, I don't think he physically needs to be there to defend his city. He could be a political leader who never does PvP, if he has done his job well on developing the node, citizens will fight for him. Keep in mind that the Node Sieges are open world, which means "huge" so it doesn't necessarily have to depend on one person even if he/she is the mayor.

I haven't heard if Nodes degrade over time. Afaik only way to degrade a node is by successfully sieging it.

"leaders will need to tax their populations to provide these services, to construct these buildings, and to keep Node atrophy at bay. Too much and their populations will abandon them, too little, and the Node will decay and de-level. Savvy leaders can supplement their Node’s income with trade routes and trade agreements with other Nodes (be sure to provide some armed escorts for those caravans!),. Absentee leaders need not apply, as every leader can be replaced in the next election cycle.

Perhaps I chose the wrong words. I meant housing/land you develop but this is all good to know.

If there has been a siege and your node/town destroyed, yes your house can be attacked.  You will not lose all your items. They will be there for you when you find another place to rebuild.

Good catch, I totally forgot that, thank you.

If i remember in 1 of the streams correctly

If no 1 is online to defend the node it will be razed and delevel if its attacked and the attackers win. we dont know if the city will also have NPC defenders like mini bosses you must kill to win a objective.

If your talking about freeholds if no 1 is online and the city is razed and deleveled there will be a couple of hours were people van destroy your freehold. you can hire NPC gaurds to defend. you lose your free hold location but i think there was talk you can just slap it down some were else if there is space, dunno what you will lose and if you will lose anything if your freehold is destroyed.
