Question about the game

i heard that this game is going to be subscription based. i thought the game was free to play? if its subscribtion  based why? we already funded the game.

  • Hi @Blubyu. Ashes is subscription based so the developers can focus on providing excellent content for us to play without relying on a pay to win approach to fund their development.

Ashes is not free to play. There will be a monthly subscription.
  • Free to play games go south very quick. One of the main selling points that brought me to Ashes was it is subscription-based like the best MMOs of the past. @BlueByu
  • Subscription based is one of the things most people here like.
  • As the rest have stated its sub based. That's to prevent the p2w and cash grab stuff from f2ps. If they have a steady cash flow from subs they don't need to press for income via gating, in game notification spams like a lot of f2ps do... etc.

The funding of AoC you speak of, via the Kickstarter campaign and subsequent methods here on the website soon, are to get the game developed and made.

Subscriptions will help the game continue to run, expand, and grow with the community after it has been made.

Now, there were indeed some campaign donation contribution levels that included a lifetime subscription.  That would be the only way to play without further subscription payments.
