What function does food have in the game?

What function does food have in the game? Will it work like everquest 2. It made you heal up faster and drink did the same thing to your mana. It must have a function as there will be fishing and all sorts of making food.

Comments

  • They said it will pretty much just heal you and give buffs.
  • I would guess it would be like EQ2 food and drink with buffs, regen, and perhaps some alcohol effects.
  • It does nothing no the undead
  • If your a lumber jack some of the wood might be used to make a fire to cook the food on. I wonder how many trades you can do. I think I heard them say 3.

Much more than 3....that number was for the gathering professions.

Edit after re-reading: If you mean how many your toon can do at the same time, they stated it would be based on how many points you put in various trees, so you could do every craft on on a single character, just poorly. Only those that concentrate on a single tree, for example armorsmith, would be able to craft the highest/best stuff. The intention is for people to be dependent on others (or at least alts) to get required materials to craft. No being a master carpenter that can go out and chop down the best wood in the most dangerous part of the forest solo. You max in one area, you are giving up skills in another.

  • Here's what I found from previous livestreams:

    24/05/2017:

[15:24] Hunting provide buffs and food?

    1. Yes it will provide buffs.
    2. We are not going down the survival route, you will not need to eat to survive.
    3. Not all recipes will be known by the player. Experimentation.
    4. Nodes could require food as well as other resources to progress.
It also seems that different professions will be affected by food. For example in the livestream from 01/06/2017 there was a question about how taming/breeding would work, and this was stated by Steven:
"It's going to be an exploratory profession where you try to find out what kind of food affects it, what kind of season affects it."

From the 19/05/2017 livestream there was a question about how underwater areas environments would work, how players would breathe etc. Here food is also mentioned:

[38:00] How will underwater environments work? How will players breathe? Will there be potions or items?

    1. We are including different mechanics
      1. Items
      2. Potions
      3. Food
      4. Skills
Another thing that I remember being mentioned in one of the livestreams or perhaps it was in one of the podcasts (can't seem to find it), was that food and potions produced by cooking/alchemy would provide bonuses/buffs, but will never replace the classes (healing, buffing).

Apologies for the lengthy post, hope this answers what you asked :)

This is good that they're not gonna make it Sims-like.
