    Role would be first, I have been playing tanks in most of the mmo's I play, makes it kind of easy to form groups in the trinity type games. Second would be class, need to be a class that can tank, and third would be the race, though I usually play a human if the option is there, but for AOC I was thinking dwarf for a change.

    The only reason why this is Confusing is because Devs used the term, " Tank " in their Archetype Breakdown on Kickstarter Page.

    it would be easier to express if they put a replacement term ... like Gladiator

    That's what role means to you. I get it.

    But, my overall role in the story trumps everything.
    So, for me, from the options that you listed:
    role = race + class (and really plus a whole bunch of other choices you didn't list)

    class for me.

    Role can be too broad for what i'm looking for and race isn't a great deal. I would prefer human (assuming stats are balanced). If I wanted tank than Role would be the same as answering class so this is kinda unfair for those DPS people

    if human isn't balanced stats i'll be aiming for the most balanced one probably

    Role>race>class in that order. 

    Role: Whichever gives the most benefit/support to group play. So I'll be looking into other augments that boost that. 

    Race: whichever I find most visually appealing or concept that sounds fun, regardless of augments. 

    Class: Bard. Doesn't seem to be a choice at the moment. This primary should give me the most variation of my role I think.
