Character Creation progress so far

During their June 30th twitch feed they showed us the progress on their character creation system. Did people expect it to be that detailed this early. I like when Steven said that once its finished they will make the character creation part available so we can play with it and see what we can create from it. I just hope they give us a greater range of hairstyles from the start. Then we have the scars and tattoos. I am glad you can make your character fat. Going to see if I can make a fat elf you dont see any of those do you.

Comments on what you saw so far.

  • I think they are on the right track in terms of having a base model that is "augmented" with racial characteristics, armor and other appearance features. I love the way that individual components of the model and skin can be customized, such as having two different eye colors or types, added scars, armor wear and tear etc.

The best news of all for me was the confirmation that the CC scree will be released to the public early. I can't wait to get my hands on this! Gimme gimme gimme ;)
  • Breaking out modules like the character creator early and letting the community play around with it is a really good idea.  It'll flush out most of the bugs / issues and we'll get to go ahead and figure out how to use it so launch day = more playing and less mucking about with the boob slider.....
  • Progress? Detailed? All they shared was plans and concept art.

Just to be clear, I don't think they're behind schedule, but they don't seem ahead of schedule either.

The CC module sounds good. I hope they have a body hair slider in the character. I like my dwarfs hairy.

To inform you they were not concept art they were 3d models. The clue here is that in the previous twitch video office tour they showed a dev adjusting the UV's on that human male character.  If they have the base model already, the next step will be poly morphing (for those that dont know its the way they make a character smile, wink, cry etc). This will take the longest time to do.

I dont think they are behind schedule either and are progressing at a pace on how complex they what the characters to be. The interface where adjustments are made to the character will come last as its all programming.
