Crafting concern
I'm concerned that the way they approach the crafting/gathering in this game, is to hardcore. I remember back in old wow, that it could be hard, to get the mats you needed, or an item from a different crafter. And that was in a game, that had an auction system. This game will just have an billboard thingy. So unless you are playing alts, with friends or a guild, where you decide to work together on this. I think/fear, people will struggle on this part, and it will be a huge pain, that can discorage people. You claim to say, on about some of your things. That this is apparently what people want. Have they directly said it, or are you assuming, because people are liking a certain game, with certain features. I can add an example. I recently startet playing Black desert online. I don't care for all the features. I don't like that we have to repair our items, and i hate that the items lose durability when you do. But i still play this game. But this game was somewhat cheap, and there isn't a subscribtion fee. I think people will deal with less, when they have to pay each month. Another example. When Wildstart was created, people had prior to it, said they wanted more hardcore raids. So they made them. And it turned out, people really didn't want it, anyway. And that game ended up f2p

I think as long as Intrepid Studios puts in mechanics that encourages players to work and help each other, it can become very interesting. However, it all depends on them managing to make this right. It is easy to say that it "all depends on what players choose to do", but for that to happen, the proper mechanics need to be in place for that to be possible to be executed successfully.
Another thing you should probably know is that Steven feels, like myself, that not everything should be handed to a player. Players should feel accomplished when they achieve a task, not because they achieved it, but because they actually worked for it. The systems in the game seemed to be designed to require effort and cooperation and those achievements make you stand out to yourself and to other players and some will even be unique.
Should be that we are able to rely on our neighbors as we traditionally rely on NPCs.
But, we will have to see how the social experiment works in practice.
