I can imagine the lore of Ashes starts off with all the races hating each other and not working together, but then they have to work together in this world to survive.
Basically any stereotypical MMO with multiple races or factions does.
I really hope that they lived in harmony prior to the doom and destruction.
They were originally planning on having each race enter a certain gate BASED ON their race, and once they decided to change that decision and make it so any race can enter any gate it makes me think, "When everybody left the land of 'Ashes' did each race exit through a particular gate?" If that were the case I'd be a little bit disappointed, in game "racism" hasn't been my favorite thing, EVEN THOUGH it does add plot to the lore.
Just like how in GW2 (Guild Wars 2), the Humans and the Char were racist towards each other, I really hope all the races of Ashes are open minded.
I'm also thinking about religion in Ashes, will one religion think that their god is superior to the others?
That'd be interesting to see in game, seeing as how it's impossible to be an atheist in the game because the gods interact with you hands on.
Back to races, how will the races shape the way nodes look? I haven't gotten real clarification on this yet, but if say the majority race in a particular node is dwarven, will the architecture look more dwarven or will it look more "whatever node type it is"?
I'm really hyped to see how things will pan out!

e.g Will we accept the Tulnar?
Will be interesting to see how the non-magic world will work since they've changed how the gate functionality will work - especially if races have sub divided into different cultures xD I need lore for this xD
The lore won't dictate animosity between the races.
Animosity will come from however players respond to the conflicts created from clashing node objectives... for the most part.
If you and other like minded individuals/players want to create an anti-magic society node, more power (of the non-magical variaety) to you...
My rogue is gonna hafta rely on that mage to cast their light spell while I am adventuring, at least when I run out of torches... n_~
and by your logic, you think that warrior classes shouldn't hold a candle to casting classes.
*salutes
Here's to hoping your medieval army of Dead Boys doesn't end up as
Dead
Boys
While you're busy doing this, I'll be busy building Lazlo and Dweomer.
I meant no offense, I was just responding. I don't recall stating or making any case for logic about casting classes outmatching or dominating warrior classes. On the contrary, I was saying how I will be dependent upon and relying on them to make up for what I will be lacking. I want some degree of balance among classes. I will be playing rogue which is usually considered DPS. I just don't see playing without magic. That does not inherently mean I think warrior and DPS types should necessarily be weaker. I AM that damage dealer...
Sorry for the confusion. Nor do I mean to imply that casting classes were *only* good for casting light spells... I just know that at some point I will be overzealous in exploring and not pack enough torches...
I fail to see what I posted as crucifying you, but I apologize as that was never my intention.
*wonders if I am perpetuating further misunderstanding...*
We should start planning that actually. Any other rogues want to perfect the art of murder and escape together? =D
