How Many Cities In Total(Theory Crafting)

What does everyone think our MAX city number could be around, or you would like to see it reach around.

i make this because with 5 lv6 cities(metropolis) you could have 1-XX lvl1-5 cities everywhere.

my guess is a good 10 cities besides the metropolis

  • If the map is YUGE then there may need to be a hard cap on the number of cities, but if the map is say only a dozen or so nodes square, the density of cities cannot increase beyond a certain threshold due to the "lockout" rule. This would enforce a soft cap for the number of cities due to the layout of the node graph.

so what number would you theorize?
  • So we know 10k concurrent users is the stated cap per server. Max of 5 Metropolis. So say you need 1000 citizens actively contributing to keep a Metropolis going, you would need half the server population just to maintain those 5, giving the other half to be spread out citizenshipwise around the other nodes.
  • I'm really hoping we don't see our first Metro on most servers for a few months, meaning the game is that in depth and that much work is needed. I'm going to be super bummed if we max out the 5 Metros in the first few weeks.
  • Supposed to take a few months... we'll have to see how much of that is hardcoded.
Such that there is a limit to how much we can speed that process.

  • Good points, i did not think of the possibility that IS might put a wall up on progress for the beginning cites.  Very possible.
  • The concept stated was that as a city grows and gives more benefits, that the tax and costs associated with citizenship would increase. You will have people migrating to other areas just to avoid the taxman. If you got citizenship while the node was young it will cost you less than if you join later. So people will have a reason to build up their node, but convincing those that come later to stick around if mismanaged will be a tough sell.
  • Might take longer than a few months IF players choose to siege on nodes before they reach metro level :)
There will be lots of node points to choose from I'm imagine, and only 5 can ever become a metro, so could be like 50 node points? I mean 40 could be left dormant who knows xD
  • I thought that a city had to be metro level before someone could siege the node in the first place. I must have heard wrong.

Nodes can be sieged at any point in development was my understanding. The more developed the longer the declaration window and cooldown and the more resources that have to be paid to initiate said siege. In the beginning expect to see groups of people burning down level 1 and 2 nodes fairly frequently. Safety in numbers.

    From the blogs:

    "A Reactive World-Nodes"

"Just as Nodes can be developed by players in Ashes of Creation, they can also be destroyed by players as well. Every Node in the game world can be destroyed as a result of player actions, resetting the progress made on that particular Node back to a lower tier of development or even its original starting point. Are you unhappy with the oppressive actions of a player government in a particular area? Did one Node beat out yours in a race for exclusive developments? Is there content you want to explore, that requires a Node elsewhere to develop? Envious that your hometown is not the center of the world? All of these “problems” will have an ingame solution available in the Node’s ability to be destroyed. Finally, and perhaps most importantly from a gameplay perspective, the destruction of a Node will not be a simple everyday run of the mill activity."

  • I thought the development of a node prevents developing neighboring nodes given the size of the map that's a lot of empty land. I'd say 5-6 cities.
  • I doubt we will see alot of empty land as every guild and their mom is going to found a settlement.
