the problem with the monsters

will there be problems with monsters type , you take the task to kill monsters , and then there is a change in the world and the monsters disappear. Russian (будут ли проблемы с монстрами по типу , ты берёшь задание на убийство монстров , а потом идёт смена мира и монстры исчезают)

  • I imagine that say you have a quest to kill 100 skeletons, and the node the quest is from levels up and the skeletons disappear, only to be replaced by corrupted skeletons, that count towards the quest. Or maybe you are talking about the mechanic of everyone hunts the skeletons to extinction, and there are no more skeletons to be found. There are spawn mechanics that should alleviate that problem. I don't remember anything from the Q&As about extinction caused by player hunting for mobs, just node development affecting what kind of mobs may appear. Guess we will just have to wait and test it in alpha by killing every single squirrel we come across.

I was referring to both. I agree we will see in the alpha test

  • I'm not entirely sure what you're saying- but mobs vary though out the map and some appear due to responses in player activity. Some mobs are also seasonal and a mob might exist on one server and not on an other ^^

If you have a quest that requires you to kill a mob but because you haven't completed within a reasonable time, and the mob has disappeared, you'll probably need to abandon the quest cos you failed xD
  • If all the monsters disappear you will just have to get another quest. They should reappear at some point and you can go back to hunting them.
  • I think that quests will be more meaningful than simply killing monsters because someone told you to kill those monsters.
Whatever you've collected from killing however many monsters you've killed already will still be useful in some way.

In the playthrough where the devs killed the Forest Guardians, they said that we could choose not to turn in the meat we collected and complete that quest. We could choose to take the meat home and experiment to see what food we can make and what kinds of buffs that food will give us.

    But, we can't do everything.
We won't be ab;e to obtain every quest - because some quests will expire.
We won't be able to complete every quest we obtain - sometimes do to our failure and sometimes because the quest expires before we're able to complete it.
There will be new quests for us to try.
The most important part is that we don't run out of new quests.

Also, it probably won't be that the monsters disappear from the world, entirely.
You may just have to find the monsters in a different region.

We don't know much about Intrepid, but if I was in their shoes, I'll make a raid boss spawn if you kill too much skeletons :v like a giant sized @nagash
  • See my first thought when I saw the question was that certain mobs might be season specific.... but that's still all covered by the quest expiry covered above :)
  • Also mob behavior will also be dynamic, so the next time you see the skeletons they might have different combat tactics and aggro tables etc. This combined with random spawn locations should keep things pretty fresh.

Great idea! I am totally for that.

I can see it now. Nagash takes a minute in peace in his home. Gets pulled across the world to play a monster. Win for everyone I think :D

  • Although my idea came with the intention to prevent people from farming in an area until the end of time just to grind the hell out of it all alone, *cough* BDO *cough*. If you put a raid boss patrolling the area who spawned from the remains of the monsters you killed, it might make players considering the idea of farming parties or if they go solo, avoid being caught by the raid boss.
As for monsters with different patterns... It might be too much of a hassle, I'd rather have them synergize with each other.
Not the usual => archer skeleton "IMMA FIRING MY ARROWWS! Oopsie! It did no damage whatsoever... What? Do I have any other skill than my usual normal and overused auto attacks? Nope. Who needs that?"
    ...
Okay, seriously, ranged type monsters should have abilities to either keep the player away from them or escaping without making them fall off a cliff *cough* dark souls *cough*. And melee type monsters even more so and not the regular "I'm melee, I do more damage and I have more health, but that's it."
This is why trash mobs in dungeons are called trash mobs, they are trash.

HOWEVER, giving much too much CC and abilities isn't a good idea either, at least not for low-level monsters.

In conclusion, fighting against multiple monsters should be possible but not by spamming your aoe *cough* MMOs *cough* and leaving the combat with 80-90% health. Unless you out gear/out level them completely.

    Monsters have feelings too :(
  • Witcher 3 already discovered the solution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37unK-OKnzo

I'd love it and hate it at the same time...
