Community Made Dungeons

I was wondering what some of the community thought about the possibility of having a program/software that allowed us to "make" dungeons/raids using art assets provided by Intrepid. I posed this question on the Discord to Intrepid, but I'd like to see what you guys think.

Obviously, this idea comes with certain limitations and concerns; Who is going to decide/vote on which creations deserve to be in the game? These dungeons would have to be instanced (or else the implementation would be too difficult).

Comments

  • A friend likened the idea to Worlds Adrift. I have never played that game, so I can't say if it's what I'm suggesting.
  • I would lose my life doing this, level design is joy to me.

Oh me too! Especially if we could customize the abilities used by bosses/mobs.
  • I would vote all in, but they would have to be Mods that could be turned on/off. I also would like to see, if implemented, some control on IS side for what types of treasures could be added and how often. I would not want members of the Mod community making quick/easy dungeons with over the top payout. Nor do I think the community should be allowed to add in rare or higher level drops.
  • @Azathoth
The loot could be based on the level of the dungeon/level of the node it's in. Agreed that loot would have to be well regulated, but I feel like that isn't too big of a task.
  • I actually wish more games would do community inclusion, would be great to see what the community could come up with for lore and raids.
  • I am all for community inclusion, but this seems far too inclusive in my opinion.
  • Voted no, Neverwinter went down this track and some of the player made dungeons and releated story were great, and some just made dungeons for best XP. They did not feel integrated into the game.

That being said, I am all for player's digging out dungeons and creating their own through blood, sweat and toil; much the same as Everquest Next planned or CoE are planning
  • Who doesn't want to kill monsters in a dungeon that is a replica of the Simpson's house.
  • I think it'll be too hard to implement, and open for exploitation.

Here is the dungeon I created. I hope it's not twisty and windy.

  • That would probably become a big mess.
  • Well I don't think the community should be able to physically make the dungeons would probably be disasterous---- I do wonder/hope that dungeons will work like nodes - so player activity outside the dungeon will influence what's inside etc.
I also wonder if the region the dungeon in will scale with the node or if dungeons are independent of anything.
Perhaps season/time of day might have an impact on what's going on with the dungeon too ^^

  • Sounds fun but they maybe used for fast leveling so they would need to be monitored
  • I think they're to easy to manipulate for exploitation.
  • I've seen some of the amazing things players can make. I support the idea :)
  • Sounds great in theory. Exploitable function in practice.
Furthermore, as far as I like most of the ideas people are proposing, everything should not be included. There are already many features the game have and will have in the future, and adding more and more will make the game not really friendly for new players or those who want to try an mmo since they wouldn't even know how things work.
And it'd become Ashes of Clusterfuck ( of every features the players liked in a game or another).
Also, if we create the dungeon, what about the reward from completing it? Will it rival the dungeons made by the devs? Sounds op. Since who knows better than the guild who created the dungeon, the way to complete it? Although they might not have the ability to loot anything from it or gain any exp, they can sell the way to do so to other guilds => "Free loots".

And if the reward is worse than the regular dungeon, why bother with them? To spend some time doing a dungeon filled with the most torturous traps ever? I actually like that. But it'd only concern a portion of players, not everyone. And it'd be seen as something "optional". Unless it becomes some kind of minecraft and then people will spend more time building than completing it. And I don't even want to think about the resources to build all of that...

In the end, either people exploit the crap out of it (if loots are good), either it's doomed to be barely used or kept for the very end of game when your nodes is maxed out, you've built everything you need and crafted all of your gears and can spare some time for our lord and savior J on gathering everything needed to build the dungeon. If you have nothing else to do that is.

    This is so true.
I'm not going to elaborate. But in few words, my point of vue is: either the reward is great and guilds will sell the methods to complete their dungeon to other people, or it is average or slightly below and then, why 'waste' your time doing them when the devs' dungeon is, maybe more time consuming, but will give far better loots.
For fun? Yes. At what price? Those who can play only a few hours won't even think about this. Unless it's a 15min dungeon. And I imagine you need resources to build that thing, right? Most guilds will focus on upgrading their gears, life tools and maybe their node if they have one and won't think about building a dungeon until the very end of the game.

I like the idea, but this is the kind of feature which I find "optional". By that I mean, only a handful of players will really be into it unless the rewards are out of this world. So my choice should have been "I like the idea, but the implementation seems too difficult/convoluted."
  • Could there be a process where player made dungeons are reviewed by intrepid before going live?
  • I would prefer the developers develop and the players play.
  • Seems that the consensus is that it would be too abusable. Wouldn't a layer of review before it is launched help fix that?

I vote no simply because MOST OF random players around the world are not nearly competent enough to create quality content (even if we exclude considering the wannabe exploiters).

And if you are going with community production, then you can not exclude anyone from participating.

The amount of unqualified people, people without imagination or simple trolls that would participate in making this content, would cause the game quality to crush down hard and fast.

Please, do not let random people design stuff. Ty!

POST NOTE: and if everything players create (huge amount of content, trust me) would be reviewed by Intrepid Studios, then this would drain Intrepid resources and man power so hard, that it would be impossible for them to do anything else. So yeah, I still vote NO.
