Idea: PVP World Bosses - Avatars of War

So if you have seen my posts then you know I am a very random idea man. Well this idea is no different and I happen to really like it.

I would love to see PVP world bosses implemented into the game. These bosses would be summon-able and aid guilds in sieges on cities. There would be two archetypes (offensive and defensive) with three avatars summoned at random. Offensive archetype would include Furry (melee), Wrath (Caster), and Chaos (Hybrid) avatars. These would be used to attack cities. The defensive one would feature Shield (Tank), Wisdom (Enhancer [think buffs]), and Blessing/Compassion (Healer). As the name suggests they would help against enemy attacks.

Now, to summon these avatars would require an insane amount of commitment from hundreds of players, this way it makes the event special and you're not fighting off giants every damn day. Guild alliances would have to work for weeks or even a month to be able to summon one. They can be summoned either by collecting PVP items or even killing (X) amount of players from opposing guilds. Only high ranking guild members can activate the event, to prevent trolls from wasting their efforts. It should be noted that you are unable to chose which avatar is summoned, it's completely random.

Once activated the offensive avatar will align itself with the summoner's guild alliance and  attack the nearest enemy node. If the node is destroyed it will target the next nearest node and so on.

Defensive avatars will react differently when summoned, hibernating until an enemy siege has started on an advanced node or unless activated by a high ranking guild member.

I hit post by accident...crap.

But ya this idea's inspiration was from vanilla Alterac Valley in WoW. Damn I love pvp with surprises.

I think it would add a fun element to PVP and the node system, but one that doesn't leave a side at a sudden disadvantage because of the sheer amount of effort required to summon the avatars. Of course loot will drop from fallen avatars, giving PVE players more incentive to kill the opposing one avatar.

Comments

  • Yes, I remember the original AV with fondness :) Intrepid have mentioned NPC's taking a role in attacking nodes, but so far only in the context of nodes that are not constantly active.
  • @lexmax

I know but I think it might give the sieges more depth to be able to summon and control the NPCs that attack the nodes. Or at the very least it would be awesome to attack a node with a giant with a flaming sword next to you.
  • I believe they discussed this for the Summoner class with a group summon.  It was not discussed with any depth but the idea a group summon for a large number of Summoners working together was mentioned.
  • @Marenor Thanks for the info, lets hope they go through with it.
