Speculation on PvP (opinions wanted)

Hey all,

First forum post here, exciting stuff. I just recently boarded the hype train and I think I am behind information wise. Anyone want to speculate about what kinds of PvP we will be seeing in Ashes? As a former (and reformed?) WoW player, I am partial to instanced Battleground style PvP with hopefully more objectives than just deathmatch mode.

What are you guys all hoping for? What information do we have? Anything outside of general world PvP, caravans, and sieges?

  • Sadly we don't have much to go on instanced wise yet. But we should learn more from PAX. IS say that around 20% of the final combat system will be in place. I can't wait to see the gameplay :)

We know there will also be instanced pvp such as arenas. As for what the objectives are, all I know, or remember, is that at Pax they will have a capture and hold the objective type 4v4 arena. But we don't know all the types they have planned for release. Can't wait to find out though :)
  • Welcome to the community!

To expand on what others have said, Steven might have hinted that there will not be instanced pvp beyond the arenas. He was using the term battleground for awhile but on a stream he felt the need to explain that he thinks of a "battleground" as a place in the world that does not follow the flagging rules.

We still might have instanced Battlegrounds or at least arenas with larger numbers of players but i believe they want to avoid this game becoming one where everyone spends there time queueing for instances while sitting in cities. Instanced pvp might be more for practicing.
  • ^ Everything has been mentioned so far really ^^
Ashes of Creation is all about "meaningful conflict" so a majority of the fun worthwhile "pvp" will be for caravan trades, guild wars, castle sieges, node defence/attack ^^
Steven sees arenas more as a training ground for the "real" meaningful conflict in the real world.
As a WoW bg fan I'm partial to arenas and bgs :) Steven mentioned in the last stream that the arenas 4v4 will have games like capture the flag *hyyyyppeee* and "taking control points".
Ofcourse everything is subject to change xD

Steven has said that when they mention "battlegrounds" for Ashes, they're referring to caravans, node sieges, castle sieges and guild wars
And there will also be arenas.

I think the node sieges and the castle sieges are pretty close to your vision of battlegrounds with objectives. They just may not be always active and won't always be in the same location. And they are open world.
    Arenas are instanced.
