What about, not all that much stats on gear to begin with? To take WoW as an example. Let's not have 1k stamina 1k agility and 700 haste/crit on gear.

That way, you can still have your good gear, without it massively overpowering other gear. But it is a sign that you're good at your particular function, be it raids/pvp. Just make the gear look good.

Also, a stat allocation system, like Ragnarok Online for example, allows for some lovely customisation.
    indeed
  • Will we have gear scaling in pvp? PLEASE SAY "NOOO!"
let me benefit from working hard and gearing up!
I have played few MMOs where gear scalping is something, and I have to say " it sucks". It sucks to see your hard work be under scaled because you were already too powerful. I guess if it is to be in ashes, I would prefer if it is a separate mode and not all gear is always scaled.

I HOPE GEAR SCALING GETS SHOT IN THE PINKY TOE
  • My entire plan for PvP is to be a bounty hunter / tracker down for pkers. I hate PKers, but I do enjoy pvp. I blame the vigilante in me.
  • Hmmmm, just been watching the stream on the 18th July where they have mentioned armor tiers, at least five ish by the sound of it.....

I'd rather have gear differ by smaller amount of stats but having an ability to add custom augments with EFFECTS, rather than gear differing solely by moderate to large amount of stats.

    AUGMENTS

For example, some gear piece fitted with an augment giving you a small chance to freeze (slow) your targets when they hit you (more noticeable slow) or always slowing enemies when they hit you (weak slow effect).

Or gear piece having an augment of decreasing your range (if you are ranged class) but making your attacks somewhat more powerful.

Or gear piece having an augment that adds small leech effect to your attacks, when you are attacking your target from behind.

Stuff like that. Making your game play feel even more unique and fit to your style. And having limited slots for augments you would have to make strategic choices about which ones you want to use.

Perhaps augments could be pulled out of gear pieces and new ones could be slotted in, at of course a fair price, or by destroying an old augment and rewriting it with new one.

Some augments could be crafted, while some would drop from bosses. Maybe some would be awarded by completing (difficult) achievements, etc.

Gear scaling is for trash players playing a Trash game made by Trash Devs.
    I say NO to scaling.
PvP isn't something casual PvE'rs do on the weekend for fun.
PvP is for the true elitists who seek to climb to the very peak of the player base.
As such they should all grind & craft the best gear. Not just step in there 5 minutes after creating a character &  somehow obtaining the same stats as someone who's spent thousands of hours grinding his skills & gear.
u know most games nowadays have gear scaling for arena pvp? even WoW.
true PvP Elitists dont want to grind PvE to be able to have fair and skill based PvP Fights.
Only Plebs need to Outgear their Opponents.
I kindly yet firmly disagree. the reason i out gear other players is because i fought against other good players and won BG'S/ARENAS i kicked butt and deserve the gear i wear to show it. I went up against great players that out geared me and WON and scaled up the ranks and bettered my skills along the way! gear scaling is for the weak of hearts, the lazy, and the cry babies! no hard feelings tho :]
i dont mind if u earn pvp gear via doing pvp, but in most games u earn ur gear by doing pve, and u see a lot of pve heros winning in pvp because of gear advantage.

so y lets hope ashes will be better :)

I like the sound of augments
