Question regarding proper forum posting.

Hello everyone, I posted this question in the Newly Arrived forum, and it was suggested that I post in general.

Though I have dug through the announcement section of the forum, there doesn't seem to be any guidelines on what content should be posted in which forum (outside of the one line description under the forum name).

Right now I see game mechanics discussions going on in General, Design, and Systems and Mechanics.

So, what kind of content goes where?

  • Hello everyone, I'm new.

As I post this I realize I don't even know if I am posting a question in the correct forum.
  • Hallo Johndoe and welcome :)

I do think the general forum may be a better section to post your question. The Newly arrived is more of an introduction for new AoC members.

Unless you are choosing this as a novel way to introduce yourself ;)

As for an answer, in the absence of clarity, I believe you must relay on common sense.

  • Yeah, the subtext for this forum is "Step through the portal and ask about this unfamiliar place."

I didn't know if that  meant that general questions should be placed here. I will re-post in the general forum.

    Thank you for your response.
  • Where ever people decide to post it. It is a free for all. The mods tend not to move them, only close them when they go salty or question has been answered. Most people used the recent discussions tab to see what has been commented on rather than clicking and scanning each category. Just like I found this.
  • Interesting, thank you.
  • Forums, as it stands right now are basically a checkbox they've checked. At the risk of sounding old, and grumpy. Telling the kids to get off my lawn. But I wish they made their announcements on the forums. But everything goes with Discord. And following a discussion on Discord is just too hard. The general chat there is spammed by people writing one word sentences. It's more of a chatbox than a message box. The forums, sadly are really underutilised.
  • There isn't a guideline for posting material "somewhere" - so it's  mostly your point of view-  thinking- this topic is most suitable here.
We also don't have an Off-Topic sub forum or a Guides/Information sub forum which can be pretty inconvenient:(
Worst case scenario if you post in the wrong place - like a fan story in general - a mod will move it for you :)

@Johndoe well since it is your first post... you are in the right place! I extend to you a warm Welcome!

As for the context I would say it is left up to you to interpret what point it is you wish to convey and align it to the correct forum. I would say though the most often read forum will always be the general, so post there for the most reads. If it is decorum you seek though posting in the correct forum could be brought to the consensus of others by private message. Of course I will keep an eye on you now, if you post incorrectly I might have to reply with a sad emoji, and no one wants that  o:)

Welcome, and if you want to ask a question then go to the general area, theres were pretty much everyone posts so don't worry, your question will be answered !

  • Welcome @Johndoe to these free and breezy forums :)
  • Welcome! Just use your common sense and even if you go wrong the mods will move it to the proper section
  • I think the best way is to pretty much disable all the channel notifications except for: intrepid_answers and game_information so that you can get the news almost as soon as it comes without all the other baggage.

You can do this by clicking on the channel name in the top left.

This helps me not get distracted by constant nofications of dAnK mAYmayzz and unrelated riffraff.

  • Hello @Johndoe o/ and welcome to the community smile
  • Good afternoon,

No need to repost, I have went ahead an relocated this post to the General discussion forum =)
