Will Arenas and Battlegrounds Kill World PvP?!

So they said they want World PvP to be a thing right? (correct me if Im wrong) Wont Instanced pvp stuff kill it ? I mean why go out in the world search when you can stand in a city and just que right? I mean sieges will sure be really popular but they wont apear everyday (Its Everyday Bro xD) they well ocur like once a month right? (or something like that) Can you guys tell me what do you think because personally I love World PvP I just feel like there wont be anyone doing it. (except for sieges lol they are the best xD)

  • Sieges need to be worked on, they take a while to set up. But there's more open-world PvP. Trade caravans that go from city to city for example, they need to be defended, and can obviously be attacked too.

Many of the core philosophies of this game, seem to have PvP as an integral part. So, I do not think it will kill world PvP.
  • I really don't think instanced pvp will impact world pvp because the world pvp is integrated into pve elements :)

Best example to use is our caravan system.
    1.  If you want good gear you'll need to craft. Therefore you'll need to be involved in the PvE gathering/crafting/raid  systems to ensure you can create the best gear to progress in PvP
    2. If you don't like gathering etc then the best way you'll be able to obtain the necessary materials (or materials to sell on to buy what you need) is to raid caravan routes.
    3. If you like gathering and crafting etc you'll need to defend your caravan from those that don't ^^
For me I'll be an arena player - but as intrepid have stated the difference between open world and instanced pvp is that instanced is meaningless in terms of progression and personal development. Open world pvp comes with risks and has greater personal value and thus at the end of the day should be more thrilling and enjoyable.

I look forward to both instanced and open world pvp but considering other games I've played I'm sure the best experiences will come from the open world pvp ^^

Will Arenas and Battlegrounds Kill World PvP?!

Nope.  There is too much involved in world pvp in Ashes and believe it or not there are many that do like pvp when it has a reason other then senseless killing.
  • I dont think so :D
  • Lots of nodes in the world to siege.
I think people typically think of sieges just for cities and metropolises, but there will also be sieges for villages and towns.

Meaningful Conflict will often result in open world PvP combat.
Motivations to engage in PvP combat will be more meaningful than just - I want to have fun PvPing today.
  • My guild and I are keen on World PvP, as are many other guilds. No need to worry.
  • Will World PvP kill battlegrounds?   :p

Exactly, I find organic PvP confrontations are always more fulfilling and desirable
  • I'm against battlegrounds or any form of instanced PvP for that matter.  Arenas could be integrated Roman gladiator style inside a coliseum to provide spectator seating / betting / vomitorium.  Gotta buy a ticket and the participants can win prize money.

Dueling (non-lethal) combat can be a thing.

  • Hell to the fuck no.. Instanced pvp is a NO GO at this station..

leave world pvp how it is now and maybe make arena a little more interresting that is it.

Mindless Slaughter.  What a GREAT effing Guild name that would make......

Edit:  Or a great band name.
  • Battlegrounds in Ashes are open world PvP zones that flag everyone for battle (video link).
    • Cravan system
    • Castle sieges
    • Node sieges
    • Objective based guild wars
On the other hand, Arenas are separate instanced PvP scenarios.

I like your idea of spectabable gladiator coloseum or something like that and I also kinda hate instanced pvp because I have not find a game yet where everyone wouldnt just do instanced one.

From what I understand only arenas will be instanced. In one of the July streams it sounded like battlegrounds would be open world. Sort of an open world zone with flagging if you entered it. Like Wintergrasp from WoW for those that have played WoW.
  • Dont think so, caravans, resources, alot of stuff is there to promote world pvp.

I don't think world PvP would be affected by the PvP instances. There will always be enmity between guilds and the best way to resolve that imo is a good ol' open world Guild vs Guild. Also, I would assume some grind spots / farming spots would be highly contested and thus having more reasons for pvp.

The game is open world PvP with instanced arenas.  There is no comparison to be made.
