Motivation

I'm trying to wrap my head around the growing areas in the game.  I understand there can only be 5 metropolis areas.  What is stopping every player from existing in these areas as a main base?  I mean, why should I leave my great metropolis and go try to make another area bigger if I am happy with the world as is?  Wouldn't every player want the bonuses of the existing, fully developed areas?  Why would I give up a rich area to go build up another area, especially if that means the great area I already have a castle in, would be threatened?

I hope I am being clear.

Thank you!

  • Hi,

I think there are a bunch of reasons.  Just to start naming a few....

What if your "rich" area has a high tax rate?  What if the person running the city is using it for individual gain instead of the community's growth?  What if you want a chance to create something?  What if the city leader isn't doing anything at all?

What if a dragon is awoken by that city and it destroys the city?
  • Traveling to other areas to gather and to mine will be necessary in order to keep defenses up, crafting  and to keep trade flowing.  By virtue of mining or such in another area that alone aids in their growth.

Also your community might decide to help another big group siege a community in order to build up a new node to entice new boss fights or open new dungeons.  Nothing is static in an ever changing world.
  • For the same reason as always: fame, money, blood and women!

    You forgot adventure
  • Also, node citizenship is capped by a series of increasing maintenance costs. To keep a node at level 6 will require a massive effort. You can't just build it up then go on vacation and sip frosty drinks on the beach, or you will come home to a smoking crater. The server limit given atm is 10k concurrent players at a time. Let's say node citzenship at metropolis level really starts to sting at over 1000 people. 5 metropolis is 5k getting the benfits of metropolis. That means 5k people displaced and looking to tear the status quo down and build their  own areas up. These numbers of course are at a max level. Before I get people saying "But, but, but alts will be a thing too!", realize you have to be a citzen of a node to buy housing starting at level 2, place a freehold at level 3, or buy/rent an instanced apartment at level 5. Housing is ACCOUNT capped, not character. So while it hasn't been stated that your alts will need to be a citizen of the same node as your main, and you will be able to use your housing across all characters, this also allows for bands of non-citizen characters to roam the countryside changing the landscape as desired.

If you don't think women are an adventure, you're doin' it wrong.  :D

To clarify, that comment was in no way intended to be sexual or sexist in nature.  I am referring to the adventure of sharing life with an awesome woman.  Always an adventure.
  • I just want to see the world burn....
  • Its only a metropolis area as long as it does not get sieged. You may have to move to a different area. They wont be metropolis forever.

I always thought that life was the adventure and it becomes a whole lot more meaningful when you have someone to share it with

This will be the kernel of meaningful PvP in the game.  There will be a large group of players who want to keep a particular Metropolis.  There will be a large group of players who want to destroy said Metropolis so they can build a different one that they can control.
  • I just want to see the world burn....

We don't need no water let the ************ burn,
    Burn ************, burn.
  • Pretty much everything has been said already ^^

Another nice thing I look forward to with nodes is that even though you might be happy with the way the world is - someone else might not be and thus the spiral downward progression of your node ^^
If you love it you gotta work hard to maintain it - maybe get a promotion and work up to become a member of the government and work some relationships with neighboring nodes!

I'm really excited to see what the community can do with node relationships xD

Eventually, well-established players will also need to have a bit more to do than just 'be citizens'...and they'll also be well-skilled, excellently resourced and some at least will be battle-experienced, pehaps from a previous siege success. Many other players might make tempting offers to get them onside for a siege attempt. As @CylverRayne said....'Nothing is static in an ever changing world.'
  • Alot of reasons to go build someowhere else to a metro, Guilds, Power, to have more houses maybe that leads to more cash you can make ingame. To be a leader of a metro.

I can make alot more why you want to destroy one.

I don't know about more meaningful.  Perhaps more enjoyable if it's a good person.

    Gaming is life.
