And I'm Freeeeeee, Freehold-in
As this shameless title rip off from a Tom Petty song would suggest, this thread is about caravans.
I was really excited to see this game have open world housing, and that player owned structures would be part of a growing city. I could see people and guilds making small villages out of freeholds which would add a cool depth to the game.
Like there could be a village we're it's full of children who live in corn, or a village that looks like it's from 1867 but is actually in a modern day nature preserve.
Freeholds grant us a wide variety of game options too. You could own a freehold that looks run down and people break down in front of it, come in to call for help and you chase them around with an axe.
You could also run an inn with your mother, but players who stay there get murdered until one finds out your mother is dead and you dress up like her.
There's also a chance you can make your freehold a museum, filled with wax figures, but they are real people!
Just a few of the many potential things I see freeholds being used for. What are some other thoughts?

Caravans will be able to travel from freehold to town and back. If you watch the one video where they dungeon crawl and visit Stevens freehold, you can see a half loaded caravan sitting in the front yard.
We had it in Perinoor (PvP zone) and was really good fun especially when it came to moving our Trade Packs The Risk/Reward elements of our location was amazing fun and although occasionally we lost our packs is a scuffle - it made the game more excting.
Village in development ^
I really hope for something similar in Ashes and I'd love to see caravan trades from freeholds to cities ^^ Lots of fun to be had
Would be a funny bait for like a noob bandit guild who would end up getting their arse handed to them, pardon my french.
Remind me when I get on discord to tell you about all my meth stories from when I was in emergency services.
So in principle it's a great ideal but the reality is I would probably be much happier with an apartment.
I have started to think about which type of housing that I would hope to have and I agree with PlagueMonk that I would be happier in a city. I would love to get one of the original city homes for a node but I think that is rather unlikely. Would probably work out that I spend an all-nighter as the node reaches the appropriate level and 30 seconds before the transformation I fall asleep only to awake with QWERTY stamped into my forehead, a short in my keyboard from the drool and all the homes sold hours ago. But maybe I can get one of the later rounds of city houses.
As for a freehold, this raises interesting possibilities. I like the sleeper descriptions above with the simple looking structures hiding something interesting. Assuming this is possible I would build a simple house with a picket fence and a small garden. Then I would dig out and reinforce the basement to hold the mother of all crafting set ups, maybe a forge. Air flow would be an interesting problem to solve but it would be fun.
And no @XombieCrisis, you can not borrow some dark little corner of the basement for an 'Alchemy Laboratory' . Sorry.
Since Freeholds can't be placed in a zones sphere of influence until it is level 3, it will take a good bit of effort to take down that particular node, since to reach level 3 it needs a fairly active base of players contributing to it to have reached level 3. Are you taking a chance to get the "best" spot by placing your freehold as soon as the node pops to level 3? Sure, but that is the risk/reward factor. Wait too long and there might not be "good" spots available in the nodes ZOI.
Caravan access to import even more chocolate and cookies.
Could we do a reality show in a freehold?
Get Flava Flav and Verne Troyer
Sadly some seem to think all we need is like and lol, but one can always just post one of these
