Suggestion for Metropolii: Petitions
I'm not sure if this is something that has come up ever, but I was going through some old games, and came across one that I once enjoyed, the 'Sims Medieval'
In this game you take on the role of the ruler of a Kingdom and have to advance it in various ways to build it up... and seeing this, I got to thinking that some ideas there could be applied to flesh out Metropolii in AoC.
Particularly I was thinking of the 'petitions' part of the game, wherein the ruler sits on their throne, and takes requests from the population. Then, the player gets to choose how to respond to the request, with the result generally being an increase or decrease in the mood of the population, or the money in the vaults..
Ashes is hoping to build up an ever changing world, where each experience is unique. I thought, as part of this, Metropolii could have their own form of petitions.
Petitions could be an irregular occurrence, that would maybe happen only a few times per metropolis. And the government of the Metropolii would vote on how to handle the petition. Events or structures in the city could be altered depending on what the government chooses.
For example, a man accused of murder could be arrested and brought before the government to dispense justice. The government could elect to have a public execution, and if so, the event would play out in the city, for all to attend. Alternatively, maybe there would be a chance to prove the man innocent, before he was executed.. depending on the outcome, the city could change in some way to reflect the choice that was made.
Maybe a petition is made to open a Theatre but it is in competition with a petition to create a Charnel house. The government can only choose one of the other, due to funding limitations, and each one would have a specific positive effect on the metropolis... a Theatre could increase the value of goods by a small amount.. or provide a buff of some kind or a Charnel house could decrease the penalties of death within a certain radius of the city.
Maybe too complex to implement, or maybe already mentioned in some buried post, but I thought it would be a nifty thing to include to make each city a little more unique.
