Resources that make sense

Ok just give you an example here. in a game i currently play that might rime with march mage. You get 3 logs to make one lumber. Better yet i can put 100k logs in my backpack!

I dont know if any of you burn wood in the winter like i do but it can be a task cutting up one good size log to get the damm thing in my truck.  Then i got to have 3 to make a piece of lumber ?? ( Note: in rl 4 good size logs fill a full size truck) but no worries i got 100k in my pack!

My point have they discussed actual limits on how many tons of resources you can put into one backpack ? I like to see little more realistic limits here.

There is a weight system in place for everything except currency. This applies to resources, processed goods, and crafted/equipped items. The example given for carry weights have been 100 personal units, 1000 mule carried units, and 10,000 caravan units. These numbers will be tweaked during alpha/beta and are not final. Different backpacks will allow you to carry different amounts of certain items. Since gear destruction while in the field is a thing, some people will want to carry extra gear, so a specialist backpack for that. Others will be resource gatherers, specialist backpack for that. And so on. No information on magic bags of holding that allow you to place a mountain inside it to bring out from your belt.

Farming would take forever and people would complain if you could only carry 4 logs in your pack

There are mule mounts for carrying player resources.

  • Wonder if summoners will be able to summon special 'mules' to carry goods etc :)

ik, was being a bit sarcastic in my comment!
  • what i would like to see is you cut one tree, now you got a log, mule drags it to your sawmill, now you make 50 lumber....but hey, dude will send us to get 3 wolf fangs and 30 wolves later we only have 1 fang /shakes head at mmorpg questing....if they want me to kill 50 wolves....then tell me to get 25 fangs...
  • Its hard to be realistic with the carrying capacity in games with gathering tbh. Game needs to keep resources in balance between each other and its not the idea to burn players out with running them thousand times back and forward between forest and city for example. So maybe its more reasonable keep carrying capacities balanced and somehow realistic between character, mule, caravan and other transport systems. Like that 100 units versus 1000 units sounds quite good starting point already.

The nice thing about Fantasy games is that it doesn't have to be realistic, and thank goodness for that, because I am here for some escapism.  :*

True. As long it stays inside fantasy theme and does not step to weirdness it will be fine.  ;)
