Impressions from the first PAX day

Dear, Intrepid studios, thank you for your efforts!

Impressions from the first PAX day. (Sorry for my terrible english)

Positive:
1) Characters models are beautiful  [except the tank and the cleric]
2) The user interface looks very nice [tree skill, skill bar with a descriptions]. Thank you very much to the artists. It's nice to see, it's cozy.
3) The game world and location are good. [considering that this is pre-alpha]

Negative:
1) Cleric's weapon. What is it ? A baseball-bat bat or a staff? xD. Poor animation skills of the tank. Looks like a hedgehog.
[Add powerful punches, push the shield?]

2) Camera distance. In combat, the character's model takes up half the screen. Can I zoom out?

3) Combat system. The panel with the slider, when you need to have time to press correctly.

It's horrible. It is not easy to slow down the battle.. =(

Imagine a player who plays for hours. I would just be tired of this running strip.
Why not make it easier? Holding the left mouse button to charge a heavy attack? If you like    this system, leave it for sea battles, siege machines... [?]

[A little dreaming] In the future I would like to see more active skills on the panel, additional skill panels. Perhaps with a class specializations. For this project 10 - is not enough.

have a nice day!

Comments

  • I actually liked the way the Tank looked. It will definitely be my character of choice. It's all a matter of personal preference though.

    As for your points:
    1) This is a pretty common complaint. I'm sure they'll fix it.
    2) I like this. I like this a lot. Too many games just let you zoom out like crazy, which though strategically adds a large advantage, it does take you out of the situation. You can barely see your character in a lot of modern MMORPGs, and that makes me sad. This is a trend I'd love to see stop.
    3) This is a good thing. It will encourage shorter bursts of play. The MAJOR downside of this, is going to be the bots/hacks that allow you to perfectly combo. It's going to be a huge issue the entire lifetime of the game sadly.
  • Im a big fan of zooming out, personally i like to have vision of my area from a full max distance, it makes for more controlled combat imo
  • Most of the twitch videos circulating have been of low quality resolution, so there has not been a lot to see in detail. Nor a lot of variety.

Appreciate this is early days, and hope there is a good amount of constructive feedback to head all the identified issues and opportunities in a good direction.

    Positive
    • Looks like there is a lot of detail in the areas and characters
    • Reasonable depth view
    • Skills fired off looked quite visual

    Room for Improvement
    • Character size; option to lock at a bit smaller so more screen can be seen
    • Target identification: not a big fan of the circle under a targeted mob/player, little immersion reducing. Appreciate some like this option, so would like a more subtle alternative in UI to turn on or off.
    • Combat: very stiff and slow, will need more fluidity
    • Character movement: also a little stiff
    • UI: would like this to be moddable as I think it is going to be hard to please everyone and the current would prefer more simple to keep the screen clean
    • Buildings/Landscapes: in all seriousness, there is a subtle line between believable buildings and an uneasiness of something not quite right when miss designed. Whilst a fantasy setting the buildings exteriors make little sense from a constructability and style point of view. Bring in a building designer / architect for a few hours to mull over the buildings and city planning as they stand for feedback and subtle improvements; it may just give them all a needed and unexpected lift.
