Caravans - turn accidental design to intentional

After watching the "bloopers" of the caravans en-route falling over unintentionally, it spurred a thought.

What would happen if, instead of improving the programming such that the caravans stay adhered to the ground and do not fall over, that caravans falling over is part of the design intention.

If the driver of the caravan has some limited control over the speed as part of design.

Go too slow and you will not fall over but take longer to get to your destination increasing exposure and risk of being raided.

Go too fast round corners or down hill and the caravan's may just topple over and players will need to group together to right the caravan again while leaving themselves and the cargo exposed.

So players must get a sense for the path they are taking and travel with care at the best speed they can!

Just a musing!

I presume this sort of thing must have happened in real life for actual 'Pioneers'  exploring new lands, over the years?: ...you have to speed up to escape from pursuers, or to get to cover, but then the danger of actually 'throwing the wagon over' in your panic...
Might be interesting to have the option to 'toggle' this on or off? Maybe you get more 'score' or buffs or something if the caravan is 'free-driven' rather than 'can't fall?'

(You remind me of the coach driver of our pan-USA coach in the 1980s who mentioned '...Just think: we've travelled in three days in comfort what would have taken settlers at least six months - and many of them would have died on the way...') Hmmm.
  • That sounds really interesting and would definitely add an interesting level of difficulty to the game. I approve of this idea.
  • If I remember right from playing Oregon Trail, someone always gets cholera.
  • I really want to capsize while fording a river.
  • Now there is a new word; fording!
