PAX-goer Impressed by Ambition of Devs

Hey all, Kevin here,

I'm currently in my third day at PAX west 2017, and today I attended the Ashes of Creation panel. Steven and the team seemed very passionate about the game, so I am pretty close to risking some money on supporting it. However, I'm at university, so my free spending money is limited. Beta looks like its $100 on the website right now, which is a lot for me. I was wondering what this investment would give me over just waiting for the game's release? The rewards on the website backing pale in comparison to the kickstarter rewards for less $$$, so I'm looking for a compelling reason to get in now, after kickstarter has ended, but before game release? Thanks.

-Kevin

  • I would wait. Beta 2 is most likely going to be a loooooong time down the road. There will be other key offers that might fit closer to your budget.
  • First of all welcome to the Ashes community,  my advice to you is don't bust your budget, put some money back and save till you can spend that much without being tight.

If you can put the money in without being tight then I'd say wait a bit and make sure that the risk is worth the reward for you
  • UnknownSystemError stated. there will be future key offers.    Happy to have you here!
  • Hey Kevin, glad you enjoyed!
  • Welcome to our amazing community!  Just as everyone has stated save up your money!  Save aside what you can afford and when a pack you like pops up 1. You won't be under financial pressure and 2. Maybe you'll have saved up more than you anticipated and can by a pack better pack than you expected ^^
  • Hey Kevin, Welcome to the community.  Yes I would wait if I were you.  Why make yourself short of cash now for a game that is not going to be available to you for prob a year to 18 months.  If you could easily afford it I would say definitely jump on the hype train, however as a student just keep an eye on future offers and jump on when it is more affordable for you. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I ended up biting the bullet and getting the beta pack at PAX for $85. I figure it like this: getting the beta now will score me the PAX skins, and there may be some additional perks to being on the beta that haven't been disclosed or even created yet. Additionally, I can cross my fingers for an alpha key while still knowing that I have early access with the beta, so I can enjoy my first "started at the beginning" mmorpg experience. Furthermore, $85 is probably not that far off from what the release ticket price will be for the game (since this is a subscription, non-P2W game), e.g. WoW expansions cost $60.

Umm....there is no box cost for the game. Once we go live it will cost you $15. That's it. Expansions, same. No extra cost.

I'll just pretend I didn't read that :'( haha. I heard Steven say at the PAX panel that it will be a subscription based game.
  • Welcome Kevin and congratulations for your PAX beta key purchase. Stick around these parts and you might even gain earlier access. Otherwise, looking forward to seeing you around the forums and discord :)

Yep, $15 dollars a month. That is the sub fee. Pretty standard across the industry. No B2Play cost, just the sub.
