Mains and Banes

If you had to pick a class to main today based on your current knowledge and fantasy you have for the class which would it be and why?

Conversely which class are you turned off by and what might be addressed about that class that might change your mind?

Again, this is based on current knowledge and is more for entertainment than anything else.

Main:
I think I would main the Rogue. It sounds like they will get a combination of Melee/Ranged and with the comments about some classes being about to scale buildings I imagine they might be in that group. Additionally the sound to be niche for deeper dungeon delves/trap finding.

Bane:
The class I am least excited about is likely the Summoner. Honestly it has little to do with the core concept but simply that I don't often see classes with pet mechanics living up to the dream I have of playing one. The permanent pets end up getting bugged or take too much micro managing. Though the class might be interesting if they were similar to a Mage except that their pets were more like turrets. They might "summon" some imps or sprites that sit at a location and throw acid or magic at their enemies. Or a pack of dogs that run back and forth in a line slowing/rooting enemies that enter their field. It would mean that the "pets" are more like fancy spell effects and you are playing a rather dynamic tower defense game.

Comments

  • I originally wished to go as ranger / rogue combo, but based on what I see today, I think I would like Mage / Rogue combo better, as mage appears more tuned to PvP than archer for now. At least imho.

Ofc. as classes get tweaked, my opinion will get tweaked as well. :)

I still hope to start as archer / rogue as my main class.

I don't have any banes for now, I like all what I see.
  • Probably Cleric because they're broken af.
  • There is no class that I am least excited.  I am excited for all of them. Mostly, I like "ranged" classes, so my favourites are mage, distant healing healers, archers, distant attacking summoners. I don't really have fun with melee too much, but there are times that I got bored playing distant attacking characters and I want to take the lead and be in the center of the battle. So my main probably would be Mage, and for the second class I'd pick Cleric, Summoner or Mage. Mage in general is the class that I'm most excited about.

Eventhough I don't play melee to much, I love Tank. And Tank+Cleric or Tank+Mage sounds really fun to me. I want to abuse the maximum Endurance with Tank+Tank as well as I want to abuse healing with Cleric+Cleric. Also I'd very much like to see a Ninja class like Rogue+Mage being the Naruto of Ashes. Elementals and Martial Arts combined would be amazing. Also an HP-absorbing fighter like Fighter+Cleric would be cool. I'm excited for everything, of course I do overhype, and I know Intrepid are not some sort of God, but it's nice to imagine things and possibilities.
  • Main is Mage always Mage.

Pet classes tend not to be my thing though. Personal preference. will still probably  try the summoner though.
  • Main:
I've always been into wizards but I'm excited to see what they do with the Bard class.

    Bane:
That's a tough question to answer at this very moment. Seeing how the classes are being developed (what little we got to see at least) I have a feeling they all will be exciting to play. Twisting my arm and I need to say one.. Hum.. Maybe the Archer/Ranger we got to see? I mean, if I had to choose one on the spot right now. I'm just not into archery as much as others are, but that's more on a personal level more then anything else.

I could see myself playing most any class combo of the 64, including doubling up into a single class. Picking a main at launch might be one of the most difficult decisions of any newly launching-mmo I've been apart of.
  • Main: Close Combat Melee Healer (DAoC Friar, WAR Warrior-Priest/DoK type)

Bane: Pure ranged class like mage. I have no problems with having some ranged abilities but have never enjoyed someone who deals all their damage at a distance.
