Your Crafting/ Gather plans?

I don't know how many slots we will get. But normally I have my main person that adventures, and a 2nd person I use to make things in MMOs. With the way this one is sharping up, we will need crafters/ gathers that are masters in their field. I just don't see anything show of a grand master type making good money down the road.

So in your minds eye, what will be your plans in this game for the crafter/ gather professions? Knowing what you know right now, and of course plans can change over time. But lets here yours anyway.

Me? Miner/ Smith as always. How it breaks down will depend on the limits of the game. If I can keep it under one toon, all the better. But if there are limits, for example you can master armor, but not weapons at the same time, then I will make another toon, if we can. For right now it's what I am thinking. But I am not sure if I will setup shop in a town, and be out on a plot of land. That I will see what is best, as this game takes shape.

I think general crafters will be tuned to make better generic items that need bulk supply.
I think specialist crafters will be tuned to make very rare and tailor made, powerful items that suit only a handful of builds.
So its like having general stores and specialist stores and all stages between.
I see no problems with such a design.

When mass production is required, there will be plenty of general crafters to fill that niche.
When tailor made items are required there will be highly specific crafters to fill that niche.
The hard part is always ensuring there is a need for both.
And that is why everything decays and has durability.

I will be anything I want to be, and with luck the game is designed to enable that to be a success.
  • Gathering :)
  • Depends on how handy things like potions are. If they are often used, and useful, alchemy all the way. If not, gathering.
But, I'd prefer a system like Galaxies had. With alts as a possibility though :)
  • My artisan professions depends also from chosen class. I usually want to be partly self-sufficient what it comes to my gear. So maybe i will craft armors or weapons i would use my self.

But it is really hard to say at this point, because we have very limited information about professions. I have always liked mining and smithing, but gem cutting could be interesting too if implemented nicely.
  • Is there a current list on the forums or a website of the current professions/specializations in game? I am new to the forums, so thanks in advance.

Im going to roleplay a lumberjack. Gonna name my character Paul Bunyan, ride my trusty ox steed, and just chop down trees.
In all seriousness I will probably wait for more info before I settle on what I will specialize in.
  • Probably wait to see what professions we will have. Odds are I won't focus too hardcore on it though, I never do. But who knows... Ashes might be the first I really concentrate on. If I go a heavy armor wearer, probably blacksmithing
  • Probably going to go all in on gathering. See if I can find any crafters willing to trade mats for gear.

If you're looking for a gathering buddy who doubles as a caravan guard, hit me up! Still guild-less.
