Bard Skill Ideas

Here are some skill ideas for the Bard. Do you agree with em'? Comment your favorite.. or most hated, I guess.  DEMOCRACYYYY.


Active: Soundsmith [Play a constructive melody, equipping you with a violin or guitar. (Violin attacks are ranged, guitar attacks are melee) ((Violin will be shaped to look like a crossbow, guitar will look like a war-axe )) **Must wait 3 seconds before switching in combat**

Violin Active: Aimed Strum [Aim your song and play, buffing your teammate with health regen and increased attack power/ enemy targets have their attack power weakened

Violin Active: Tempo [Speedily play a song, increase the attack speed of your ally by 15% for 15 seconds and movement by 15% / decrease the attack speed of an enemy by 5% for 10 seconds and slow their movement 20% for 2.5 seconds

Violin Passive: Stringmaster [Increase the duration of your buffs by 5% and debuffs by 2%

Violin Active: Harmonize [Play a protective song, negating negative status effects for 10 seconds / prevent enemies from being buffed for 5 seconds and deal magic damage

Violin Active: Deafen [Play a harsh melody, stunning an enemy for 2 seconds, dealing 5% of the opponents health]

Violin Active: Binary [Deal 2 consecutive hits to an enemy, giving them two stacks of "Ringing", each stack lasting 4 seconds. *Max: 5*

Violin Active: Allegro [Deal 3 consecutive hits to an enemy. If the enemy has a stack of "ringing" deal 3% extra damage for each stack]

Violin Active: Bravura [Boldly stand, performing an AOE song for 5 seconds. Allies within the AOE are given health regen / enemies take magic damage and get one stack of "Ringing"

Violin Passive: Echo [The 3rd song-based skill you play deals 5% extra damage or has an increased duration of 10%

Violin Ultimate Active: Dance [Play a song that forces players to dance. Target an enemy with "Dance" and for 10 seconds it will cause him to walk to the nearest enemy ally, infecting them with a "dance" effect which makes them seek out their other teamates. While they are under the "dance" effect they are unable to attack and are given 3 stacks of "Ringing" ("Dance" lasts 7 seconds on the initial target, reducing by 15% for the next infected. If there is no other target to infect, the initial target will dance in one place for the duration of the effect.

Guitar Active: Slash [Swing your guitar around, dealing physical damage]

Guitar Active: Shred [Strum a sharp tune energizing your guitar, dealing extra phy. damage on the next 2 hits as well as giving your physical attacks a "bleeding" effect for 8 seconds]

Guitar Active: Vengeful Aria [Shout a melodius war song, giving your weapon and your allies weapons 2% increased damage. Melee weapons obtain 3% lifesteal for 5 seconds.]

Guitar Active: Bludgeon [Wave your guitar in the air, and strike the enemy, dealing 8% of their health and applying 2 stacks of bleeding]

Guitar Active: Encorage [Play an invigorating song, increasing the size of your character or an ally, making the next 3 attacks do no damage, lasting 15 seconds, and increasing health by 5% for 8 seconds]

Guitar Active: Atonal [Deal magic damage to an enemy, silencing them for 3 seconds and removing any buffs.]

Guitar Passive: Skilled Guitarist [Permanently increase the damage of your weapon and duration of bleeds]

Guitar Ultimate Active: Duet [Play a rock ballad, calling upon your Muse. Your Muse appears, lasting for 20 seconds, while your Muse is alive, you deal 10% more damage. You can also direct your Muse to attack for you, dealing ranged magic damage.]

Active: Soft Melody [Play a gentle song, allowing your allies to jump over obstacles and take no fall damage.]

  • I think it will have some of the same mechanics as lucio from overwatch. With the different weapons or auras with them.
  • Good list, but you've forgotten War Yodel and Bagpipes of insanity....

  • Is the skill, "Soundsmith" a good idea? The bard shouldn't need a weapon like everyone else, but summons a violin or a guitar which have specific skills. This could any variation of weapon types though. 

    Anyway, it seems that everyone is going to have the same mechanics when it comes to weapons and skills. It would be great if there was a class that was different. It would feel more special, less boring...
  • The Biggest issue i see with the Bard is that - its difficult for me to imagine the Style of Play in an MMO - specifically because some of the Bard's Ability should not have a Range-limit 
    • Casting Hallucinations 
    • Spells involving Hyms, Verses - similar to " Curses " .
    • Spells involving Manipulation , " Periodic Damage " , 
    • Possible " Voodoo Magic "
    • Musical Instruments ( as seen in other MMOs via EQ )
    But not having a Range-Limit for one character ... you'll have to do the same for the others. ( Only some Abilities )
    • Such as Ranger being able to Fire its Arrow from Far-away ( an example )
    Any weapon can be equipped with any Archetype - if Intrepid seize this opportunity ... they could implement a vastly-unique feature that:
    • The Weapon can be utilized differently depending on the Archetype ; rather than being deemed as, " ineffective " / " obsolete " .
    Every-time a Weapon Clashes onto another Object, sound ( of some sort ) is emitted. Bard might be able to do something with that Xp
  • .Including these 2 videos that came to mind everytime i think of Bard  :D

    No no no, NO bagpipes! :p Some nice ideas @Chudyie! I hope there'll be an array of instruments available for Bard's. I think the lute will probably be the most expected but there's options out there. We could also see instruments synergise slightly differently to every race. You definitely got the idea of buff/debuff and I don't see any problems with implementing your ideas if balance allows. More and more threads like these will give the devs ideas and let them challenge themselves in terms of what we'd like to see and what they're doing. :)
