Armor affecting movement

So we know that we got freedom on weapons. Its save to assume that we will have freedom on armor as well. What are your thoughts on, for example, heavy armor reducing movement speed? Immersion would increase, but there would of course be downsides: people unequipping armor infront of a speed reliant trap for example.

  • I think armor should have a weight and that weight effects your speed. That way if you unequipped your armor that weight of carrying it would still slow you down.

I think if heavy armor reduced movement speed and if players had freedom with armor selection you would soon see meta of warriors running around in cloth all around you.

Which would ruin the overall immersion a bit (imho).
  • @Gothix It's all about balance.  Warriors might be able to build around cloth armor but they're sure to be less effective in battle, and other classes like tanks would just be unusable if they were to wear cloth.
  • I think if you where heavy plate then you should move slower but if you have had the armour on for a long time or you have a high strength stat the you should negate the effects somewhat another way is to enchant your armour to make it lighter
  • @nagash kind of like strength training in BDO, i like it :)

I was thinking more like D&D but that works too ^^
  • in D&D you always get slowed down unless you spend precious feats in your armor, which noone I know does. Getting used to it with strength might still be an enjoyable mechanic, if it wasn't negated within a short time, but rather a skill that you can choose to opt for on certain classes (tanks come to mind)
  • Please no armor weight that affects speed slower or higher. Dislike it alot.

Atleast if light armor makes you faster, i would go a high ranged mobile class with light armor and no one can get to me then in a 1vs1. You get stuff like that.

  • Well that would be fine, considering that there will be plenty of gap closers.
  • Biggest problem would not be combat (assuming enough gap closers would exist) but world travel.

Since there is not fast travel, heavy armor classes would be in huge disadvantage over light armor classes.

Even if mounts neutralized this, this disadvantage would still exist while leveling, while people still don't own a mount.

Leveling as a heavy armor class would be very annoying chore.
