What excites you about Ashes?

I'm interested in seeing what really excites people for Ashes of Creation? Was it one thing in particular that caught your eye?

If you have links or videos, I'd love to see them!

  • The role-playing potential is outstanding to the point its almost a dream
  • One word: Hope.

AoC could be what many games failed to be in the past 10 years. The only games I played for longer than 2 years are old school games from the 2000s.

Black Desert is getting close to that mark now, but just because there is nothing to play currently. AoC will change that.
  • A world that is so deep it requires community involvement. A game that you think about when you're not playing it.
  • The way the world is shaped by players and continuously evolve is what excites me the most. Everything is always in flux. No time and no place is ever stagnant. Whether you be a king or a cattle farmer, your actions impact the world and in turn the world affects you: Whether in profound ways, like the loss of your home city; or in everyday ways, such as fluctuating supply and demand of vital goods in your local marketplace due to distant wars or conflicts over trade routes.
  • No Pay to Win promise.

    And what @lexmax said.
  • The dynamic nature of Verra is what excites me the most. The idea that we almost start with a blank canvas and that the only limitations will be our own thoughts and convictions. The possibility that a saturated landscape will be filled once more by the enthusiasm of gamers who want to share in a common goal. The mystery of a world filled with more questions than answers and the knowledge that your actions help influence that world. Being able to play a Dwarf helps too. :)
  • Same as Kratz^

The idea of a world that changes for good OR BAD depending on our choices. A world that can be crafted, not just the things in the world.
  • I honestly really agree with @FliP

I have high expectations for this game and I'm excited for the potential.

Does anyone have links or information to stuff that they've read about referenced here?

You heard him guys, open the floodgates.

@Jebporkins, the info that we have been given so far is mostly from Q&A streams, and info released here and on discord.

    Official sources

    Community resources

There are plenty of helpful people on the forums and discord, so don't be shy to post any specific questions you might have
  • @lexmax

You're the best, thank you so much. I'll be able to share this around with some of my guildies and get them interested in AoC

  • The vast combination that will come with choosing your main class and your sub class. But I think the effect of the subclass is not gonna be on visual level, just adding bonus effects, which is sad. I'd be more hyped, if they plan to mix the classes like changing some skills entirely upon the second class.
  • What excites me about ashes of creation? simple, everything!

I just hope that the vision Steve has outlined for AOC can come to fruition, yes that requires quite a lot of faith, but seeing the enthusiasm and passion the development team has for this project just instils me with both hope and faith.
If there was one thing I really would love to see is a crafting system that is the basis for the entire game, a true pillar of the economy, with resources not just being everywhere but needing to be traded for, moved from place to place. From the information given so far, which is limited it would seem to be what they are aiming for, and my true hope is that it can be delivered on.
  • The actual philosophy of the game. It has been what my friends and I have been talking about for the last 7 years. As soon as I heard Steven speak for the first time I was hooked.

A world that lives, in which I can make a tangible impact and, most of all, have fun with a community again.

If I had won the lotto Intrepid would have a competitor! Or a hell of a lot more money.
  • To keep it simple: the adventure it will provide. The whole world will be new and if the node system works the way Steven describes it then it will continue to stay fresh for a very long time.
  • a new platform to play rogue rogue
  • @Bajjer I didn't realize that AoC had been in development that long. That's crazy.
  • I feel that the genre has been dominated (for better or worse) by WoW. While I enjoy that game, it is intrinsically flawed and for me, it looks like AoC addresses all of those major flaws while also having the obvious benefits of not being built on custom software that is almost 2 decades old.
  • @Bajjer I didn't realize that AoC had been in development that long. That's crazy.
It hasn't but I am sure that Steven, like my friends and I, has had this concept swirling around inside his brain for as long, if not longer.

My friends and I had many conversations exactly about how cool MMOs could be, brainstorming ideas and concepts, so when I heard Steven talk, it was as if he had been a part of my conversations for the past 7 years, and I was all in.
  • I plan on spending time this weekend to catch up on all the information/videos/twitch streams that I've missed since I really just climbed about the hype train a few days ago.

From what I've seen so far it really seems (fingers crossed) that this could be what we've all waited so long for
  • A new world a new adventure.

I just want something agian where i can put my time in and not get bored of after a week. Also when I first saw the video "why to be exited for ashhes of creation" or what its name was. There where so many ideas and things about ashes wich i had on my own to. So got hyped, bought a big KS package and so the story continues.
  • I wish I had seen more information before the kickstarter closed, unfortunately not :(

Although I hear that there may be more opportunity in the future to contribute so we'll see

According to what I read, there certainly will be no more crowdfunding. There will be other ways to obtain alpha/beta access as well as limited items, for example the PAX Packages that are on sale now.
  • The PvP similar to Lineage 2 - I am excited to see actual impact.
  • I'm very excited for the level of control that players will have, the ability to literally control entire aspects of the game is extremely exciting
  • What's not to be excited about? If the devs live up to their promises they will fulfill the dreams of many of us as well as theirs!
Welcome to our great community and I hope you enjoy your ride on the Ashes hype train as we all get to know each other.  Spread the word, the more the merrier!
  • I'm excited to see what it is. Above the mechanics, I want to know what the backstory is, the lore, the monsters in it, how it all ties together.. is it very unique or the same "human kills random bad ugly creatures" type of world? What IS Ashes of Creation? That's what I'm looking forward to seeing.
  • I have mentioned this in other post so, if anyone happened to read those and remember, I might sound like a parrot.

    Changing landscape.
That's pretty much it. I would still be logging countless hours in Skyrim, Fallout 3 & 4, Witcher 3 and so forth if I could go back through and notice a change. However, by time you can quote most NPC's there's not much that can keep your interest. :disappointed:
  • to have the chance to play someday  :'(:'(:'(

  • Involvement.  Community is what I feel interests me most about MMOs, but too many MMOs don't require involvement and investment.  Most games are given to a player, so you can "take" what you want, do what you want, and move on and start over elsewhere for whatever reason.

I think the node system, local development, limited long-distant mobility, limited marketplaces, housing/store ownership in only one area, etc. will encourage players to actually be active and loyal.
