Background music

I often find myself, after having played a game for a while, turning off the music, and sound in general and play my own playlist.

Recently I've discovered a website for ambient music, and I found it rather helpful, if not relaxing during my activities on the internet.

I am not an owner or anything of this website, I just wanted to share this with those who may find it as tranquil as I.

http://www.ambient-mixer.com

I myself am usually listening to https://harry-potter-sounds.ambient-mixer.com/ravenclaw-common-room

  • I usually just listen to my neighbor's kids fighting and throwing shit at cars as my background playing games.

Some times they crash their bike and cry. It's a nice break from the shrieking.
  • I'm afraid I live in a far more boring neighbourhood than @Karthos therefore I have to rely on my own entertainment. I normally enjoy the game sound and I believe the Ashes music will be amazing, but if not, this is my go to vid. Awesome compilation if you enjoy Bergersen & Phoenix! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_zvwYFblK0
  • I actually always listen to the in game music I turn it down to a low level but I always have it there. For me it is the sounds of the game world around me that help to bring the world to life plus with pvp there may be that subtle sound of an enemy's ability being cast that may very well prevent them from getting the drop on you. So in game sound and music is always on for me.

I hear you, it's always a lot more immersive, I'll give you that. It's just, I tend to hang around certain areas for a long time, such is the nature of RP. And sometimes, I just want something else playing in the background, but I fully understand what you mean :)
  • We'll have a nice composer for AoC, so I expect enjoyable music that doesn't have to be turned off.
  • Solo play i lisson to the games music but when I play with groups I mostly put out all sounds.

    But thanks for sharing :)
  • I usually turn the music off and leave the background sounds on so I know where stuff happens. I also often watch videos while playing depending on how much I need to focus.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean or Linkin Park or Eye of the Tiger

Thats my load out too, except discord helps keep it lively. :)
  • If you want to listen to some epic music, check out my channel's OST inspired by the Ashes community.

    Same :)
First time around music is good, but I find constant music makes my tinnitus worse :p

If I want epic music, I will play my own playlist, it doesn't get much more epic than Tchaikovsky, Bach, Beethoven, etc.

This is just soothing sounds for the background.
  • I like original instrumental compositions for games, and I will turn the music down in the settings, but I never listen to music or watch other content while playing RPG's. Most simulation-strategy titles I play, after I get the hang of the controls and general goal I will turn on my playlist for better background content.

This might sound bad, but I really hope Ashes opening theme, character maker compilation, and load screens don't have vocals (or at least not singing/lyrics).

I think I know why, it may be distracting, but the opening theme of Skyrim for example, has lyrics, and it's actually quite epic, and memorable.
  • I totally agree, I suppose then as long as the lyrics aren't louder than the instruments I would be ok. I played Skyrim for a bit before I realized they were singing and not just making noises in rhythm... More so, I just don't want to listen to something that sounds like K-pop just because I logged into play. Not really my genre.
  • Even with a good composer, chances are you won't be liking all the music he makes. I am with you on the k-pop and loud lyrics. That would bother me too.

I can imagine that after the conclusion of a major siege, the victors all gather in a tavern and rejoice, indulge in some parlor games and be merry, with Bear's music in the background. Another day will come but the glory is in the moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4hSkWmxHrA :)
  • I thought Battlestar Galactica OST was awesome. His wife sings in it also.

Make a game out of it! "Grand Neighborhood Mayhem!"

You mean the opera track? I didnt know tjat was his wife. Have you looked up those lyrics before? Pretty funny
  • I listen to older relaxing MMORPG OST that I like if ever I get tired of a game's BGM. Ragnarok Online, Bless, ArcheAge, Grando Espada, FlyFF, Lineage 2 mainly. Just set it super low on speaker.  :p
  • Speaker? How barbaric, use headphones :p I find they often have a much better quality of sound ^^

Haha, well, I would, but headphones can get uncomfortable for me when I'm playing for 8+ hours, so I just use headphones for voice com or if a game has a lot of dialogue I want to hear.
  • I wear mine for copious amounts of time sometimes too, only gets irritating in the summer, when it's hot.

    So yea, I understand :)
  • When I get tired of in game sound I put Netflix on. Recently finished Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia while trying to stay into WoW.
  • Am I the only one that plays games with the volume muted regularly? My wife says it's weird to play in silence. ; ;
  • No, you're not the only one, which is why I kind of like this. It's not complete silence, but you don't consciously notice it's there eventually. Wind blowing through the forest, hearing a creek, these things can add so much. For me anyway. Hence why I wanted to share it with you all :)
  • *Starts a pvp match* "QUEUE THE HALO 3 SOUNDTRACK!"
