Thoughts on Families?

Should a family feature be implemented? Guilds or Close friends could have their own individual "Family" essentially a sub-guild that affects sharing of items, banks, housing etc?

Is this something that already exists?

  • Good afternoon @Jebporkins!

You'll be able to get married in Ashes and you won't be bound by gender or race. I believe that the possibility to adopt or have children was considered but seeing we'd be able to kill them, I think that idea was put to bed, for now. It could be revisited though.

In terms of families, Steven has mentioned how he likes the way Archage dealt with them so we may see shared access to storage, properties etc. We don't know more at this stage but it could be a cool concept to have it ingame. :)

  • Was about to mention, since Steven used to be a citizen of Nuia in the past, he would most likely adopt a similar family feature like ArcheAge did.

I never really enjoyed the feature to be honest, as I never felt like doing the tasks. It would be nice to get rewarded for the things you already like doing instead of being forced to do some pointless activities the game dictates you to do.

The Archeage system was basically another way to manage resources and social parts of your game play and worked like a secondary guild feature.

You could be in a guild, but then have a family with your close friends so you can share land with people without opening access to your entire guild.

Some people had RP families, but the system was really just a more exclusive "sub-guild" that allowed you to assign others rights to your property.

I'd like to see more out if the Ashes system. Such as when you are married, you and your spouse get a ring that allows you to teleport to each other, or maybe let's you always see their location on the map. Maybe you can"adopt" a player or become "blood brothers" which give you perks when partied together.

I'd really like to see the family system be more than another resource management tool.
  • @Karthos This all sounds great, except the teleporting bit :P

It's just the example I have, it's from an old old game I used to play called Nexus. It was the only perk I could remember.

I'd be happy with even just a buff from being married and partied with that person. You could make your own "Sacred Band" which was an ancient army comprised of couples (men) with the idea that a man would fight harder for his lover.
  • Buffs for having family in group sounds good to me. Nothing major but a perk nonetheless.
  • I like a system similar to ArcheAge's families and how items like storage are shared, house permissions, etc. with another tier on top of it. So there's public (everyone), guild members, close friends, family, and private.

Often times, I think would want to let some friends (not guild mates) use my workbenches or pick herbs from my garden, whatever, but I wouldn't want them to have access to my storage unit, you know? So I want a tier that is "close friends" or something like it instead of just family.
  • Generally no, individually yes. If I want to share banking or housing space or privileges with someone, great. But on more than a limited basis it would seem to water down guilds or greater groups, a splinter effect.
  • I like the idea of marriage but I want to actually be able to share a house. It would be nice to be able to make it "our" home, not just some place we each have one of where we store crap and never get to work on together.
