System requirements and Ashes of Creation

I have several basic questions regarding Ashes.

1. Where can I find the system requirements for Ashes of Creation?
2. Are they recommended or minimum requirements?  Would Ashes be playable on a laptop?
3. What else should I consider in order to ensure that Ashes plays and plays well on a computer?

From what I could find here is what I found. Since its built on the unreal 4 engine I would imagine this info holds true.

    • Desktop PC or Mac
    • Windows 7 64-bit or Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later
    • Quad-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.5 GHz or faster
    • NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series card or higher
    • 8 GB RAM
    the link is this https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Recommended_Hardware

Once again specs may differ but this is a good base of information.

    2. I can see it being played on a laptop, if you meet the requirements, but laptops fall short compared to desktops.

    3. graphic cards are usually the big one for MMO's especially, So I would recommend that a decent investment in one if you like having higher graphics in Ashes. ( I would Imagine anywhere in the 970 to 980 would be completely fine)

I personally am running a NVIDA GEForce 1080 TI, by no means do you need it to run this game, but as a reference point I can (Run max settings in BDO without issue)
  • Thanks for this thread! Do I need the Intel i7......or will the intel i5 work just fine?
  • i5 will work, i7 if you want the it to work faster. Example: seeing people in a large city when you log in, i7 will render them faster.
  • I will have a 1080 and i7 by february

I am also thinking of going a little nuts with my processor, maybe an 8-core anyone?

  • FYI on spec speculation, this game looks to be graphic TEXTURE intensive, one big bottle neck no one considers is their hard drive.  A spinning platter disk will have a harder time accessing the texture files and providing them to the GPU fast enough for things to process in "real-time" versus using an SSD or even an M.2 Flash drive.

Real life Example, since BDO was already brought up, I was playing on a 7200 RPM spinning disk drive and on horseback I could make it through a town almost fast enough to get to the other side before buildings could load in, some times before the road even appeared over the landscape.  I have taken a LOT of screenshots and would be happy to share if you want to see what I mean.

I then purchased a Samsung 850 pro M.2 Flash drive, I made no other changes.  I migrated my windows install on to the new drive, reinstalled the game and all of those texture loading issues went away.  I never once had any further problems like that after swapping my drive out.

I bring this up to remind you that you can have the best GPU in the world, but if your HDD can't spoon the files up fast enough to feed to it, you might as well have a bunch of hamsters in your case processing your graphics.
  • SSDs as OS Boot Drives are always recommended and should be large enough in capacity to fit your favourite large game on it for faster loading.

SSD prices are also somewhat affordable now compared to what they used to be.

  • I don't understand why you WOULDN'T use an SSD, I mean you gotta have some mental health issue NOT to use one when gaming. I also make sure to have a UPS setup so if the power goes out I don't have to worry about data corruption from a crash

  • I use SSD to boot, but not to game. 128 GB too small.
  • If you get an i5 get the new 6 core & thread version. It performs really good in gaming. More developers are moving toward 6-8 thread utilisation (though it will take a while, also its good to have more threads if you do more than gaming in the background) so I personally wouldn't go lower than 6 threads. IPC and clock speed is what matters when it comes to gaming. Oh and if you go AMD get min 3200MHz ram. GPU anything mid to high end will be more than enough. Really it depends on how much you want to max the game, I'm sure any recent desktop/laptop pc will handle the game fine.

400-600$ Pc should be able to run it smoothly. You will prob need a 900-1200$ pc to max it without lag. This holds true for unreal engine but dunno after their modifications
