Hi,
WoW is so big in my opinion because of its beautiful color everywhere. It uplifts you with spirit because of color. It makes you nice and cozy if your in a Tavern or whatever the case may be.

As you see in the wow picture, the dev's took a longer time to make because of its orange color. The wood has a hint of orange in it. So they did not just reuse wood for everywhere.

The bright, cartoon colored look is not was Ashes is going for. It is looking for a more realistic, darker imagined world with a balance of dark and light.

Well you can adjust color settings on monitor to get a little more color.  I think it works pretty good.
