  • Yup sounds like a nice small/decent profit. Set up like a bus system where a caravan will be at a certain place at a certain time. Pick up whoever wants to catch a ride and boom you got yourself a busing/taxi service going.
  • @Megs let me know if you get that guild going when everything is said and done.. any clients of yours that are less than savvy you can lead em into my "toll booth" the gimme gold or get shanked kinda toll booth :D

@Megs @Varkun you will still have to trust your friends not to kick you off the mount and leave you somewhere in front of bear cave.  :p

So it's far from safe AFK taxi.

@Gothix Exactly my "friends" would be a no go with the taxi, trust a complete stranger instead, lol its all good clean fun.
  • I like this idea, I have a cool name too Maki's Taxis LMAO!!!
Seriously though, I see your point on wanting a carriage type of system you can pay and it will take you where you need to go.

Like someone said earlier we will have multiple player mounts, so ask a friend to drag your corpse around until dinner is over. lol.
  • I would love to run a taxi business with 2 high level players as guards (OR I WILL BE A GUARD FOR A TAXI) so it would be expensive but relatively safe
  • "MAYOR Taxi Service" coming to your neighborhood!

    - Mount At Your Own Risk -

MAYOR Taxi - Trust us, we know what we're doing!
  • After coming here from the 'prisoner of war' thread, I now have visions of a tide of taxis with afk passengers descending on a city as citizens try to get home...
It'd look like the morning after the night before... only then comes the carnage of the attackers turning around and killing them easily...

Okay, here's my thing with this.

If it's a system where you can walk up to a service and an object faster than your running speed is ALWAYS available, I am against it. For example, flight masters with griffons and bats available for everyone, all the time. I always found it weird that any single flight master had 4,000 griffons available.

If it's a system where an object faster than your running speed goes between multiple points at a set speed, and is only at one location in the world at any given time, meaning you have to wait for it if it's not at your stop, I am 100% for it. For example, carriages in ArcheAge. It has to be part of the open world! I want to be able to talk with people riding the same service, etc.

  • No to a taxi service.

If you want to travel to another node, YOU have to travel to it. The Devs are trying to bring back a sense of scale and meaningful travel and suggestions like this (or Mage teleportation) are working against that.

They want you to feel like traveling to that remote dungeon or gathering that rare resource feels like accomplishing something instead of just TPorting to the nearest portal and having the task done in 2 mins like most MMOs do now a days. If people are reluctant to do these things then those who ARE willing to put forth the effort will be rewarded for their effort.

And for those who just HAVE to have fast travel or they will quit/not play........good riddance, this game is obviously not or you.
  • Mounts should eliminate most of the tedious walking anyway, buy the fastest mount and you're all good.

Would be cool to see raised mounts that get increased speed as they reach different stages. And mount auctions to obtain fast mounts rather than everyone buying the same fast mount from an NPC.

I imagine this will be the case, you will be able to breed mounts with many enhanced traits through animal husbandry, increased speed would be one of them I imagine.

Have to add to this, that it's important to emphasise that during a carriage ride (specially if AFK), you can still be attacked and killed.

Something what is not the case with portals and/or flying taxi.
  • Carriages like Archeage or "taxi" services by players are both good ideas, they both can be attacked and are not always available.

Carriages are easier in every aspect, no need to interact with players, no risk of being thrown in an ambush by your driver...

Taxis on the other hand open a lot of possibilities and adds a lot more of interaction between players, you could choose the known driver with higher prices and good reputation that is associated with guardian guilds or the cheaper driver nobody knows that might get you killed.
It had to be done with a contract beforehand ofc, if you don't reach your destination the driver doesn't get money (or maybe 50% at first and 50% at the end)

    It's a fun idea.

Given that object collision is a thing, I'm sure that you can play a highway man @Gothix <3

Oh....we could make an Uber and corner the market. You want to go to X location. Post on the local board. Someone arrives on their mount. You mount up on your mount and put them on auto-follow. They escort you to X location and get paid.
Couple problems with it though. How to take a portion of the Uber mounts wages with no credit card system for the inventors of this ground-breaking technology. And the whole scorpion/frog scenario. How to trust your "driver" to not take you out in the woods and kill you.
Dang, got here too late, the second I saw this thread I saw an opportunity to make in-game cash on the side and some fun for RPers, no official taxi/travel service is a good thing, exploring MMOs is half of the fun, you make way more interesting memories and run across some weird stuff.

My idea was along the lines of "Seek people out at a general area they would hang out, they all have different rates depending on if mount speed was a thing or mercenaries protecting them, RPers could get into a little persona and make conversation with you or something (even as someone who finds doing RP myself cringe) the idea of that feels cool to me, also would make me choose that means of travel if I was going on a journey but not going AFK and just wanted to chat. Also would be a cool little player economy going on."

Might sound stupid, but I find any player setup organisations like that really cool.

As in regards to an AFK Pathing system, I'm okay with it, as long as you walk not run, so you can still continue your journey to that location but just a lot slower.
