Dressing for the weather?

I know some might find this a pain, but should we have the need to dress for the change in weather?

If its summertime, then your not wearing heavy outfits, if it's the middle of winter, your wearing more than just your armor.

IMO maybe have it if your not dressed properly, you take a hit to your stats. You don't die or anything like that, but you not fighting at 100% if your not dress for the weather.

Your thoughts on the topic?

  • An interesting idea not sure how I feel about it though.. would make regions more diverse if temperature played into things
  • Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen has a system like this with (I believe) eight biomes which require gear or buffs to enter without taking damage or just being less effective. One of their early videos shows a cold area that gets increasingly cold the farther you go into it.

This might be fun, it's certainly realistic, but it could just end up being another grind you have to do prior to entering an area.

I could go either way with it...
  • While I'm not against the idea I'm curious as to how it would be Implemented. Having to wear a chain mail speedo instead of  full plate armor feels odd.

I don't think we should start down the survival mechanics road of having to dress for weather conditions. In the summer, assuming it gets into the 90's or higher, most would not be able to wear their full plate all day every day.

This would, imo, alter play styles and gear builds too much.
For cosmetic purposes my character will probably dress for the weather, I like putting heavy cloaks and hats on for rain events. But to alter someones stats, that's a bit too much for a fantasy RPG imo.
  • I think this is a awsome idea. But alas i must agree with azathoth.

In bdo there is a slight version of this is the desert. The one place ive never and will never go. In survivals its always welcome. But we already have a corruption system affecting peoples stats. To add this mechanic would maybe to much for some people, imo.

I too agree it would be alot of micro managing if i had to constantly change gear for every new place i go.

I do love the way bdo handled the light survival aspects for the Valencia update. The light survival gameplay was designated to just that area and nowhere els.

The light preparations were fun and not overbearing, like drinking water during the day to stay cool or hot tea at night to stay warm. You also needed a tent for shelter against desert storms and a compass to navigate. Plus they had treasure hunting by digging in the sand.

Something like this would be a geat expansion later down the road.
  •  I like pinkberry ideas  so maybe go for looks/ effects so .. so when you come out of water/swimming/rainning you are wet make you move slower for some time and also make you slower at attacking . When hot weather make you sweat runs of face and tirted/ can't run as far because of the heat . Maybe more along them lines for ideas could work .
  • Well getting specific clothes depending on the weather would be great, but not too much (a cloak in snow and rain) eventually we should get items or spells that ward off the weather from the character so we don't need to dress up all the time.

Well yeah okay you will be wet when you are in rain or something like that but nothing like having to change your armor so you would have wind resistance for weather or something or frost resistance for winter xD

Wearing armor in winter will cause frost to gather on it, so a cloak is necessary it's metal after all, rather than changing armors depending on weather an all purpose spell or item to block off extreme weather conditions would be better (something like a barrier I guess)
