What do you think

What do you all think for me when I make a Character I personally perfer  if we start out with basic look like  weapons .tunic and shileds so tank started with  wooden shields and short swards: ranger wooden bow : mages book or small staff . And we progress along the way to iron. Steel. Silver and so on . I have seen in the past with others  MMORPG when you make a new  character they look good and epic gear and when you play and find new gear the starter look/gear look way better than anything you have seen . I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and do you feel the same way ?

Hmmm So you're talking about how gear evolves throughout the game making it look like your character has actually become something or has actually become the adventure her/ his level says s/he is right? Because this could make for a great discussion I might make one in the future talking about the pros and cons of each one!

Yes  correct  .and how  in other MMORPG the starter gear can look better than the high end gear I believe when we start are characters the looks is basic like tunic so when you get that first bit of Amour your like wow that looks good. Not just looked but what things are made of so starting with wood . Iron silver. Gold. Gems and much more so  . Every lvl up you get unlocks to better gear should look better and better as we lvl up.

  • So far what has been mentioned is basic peasant gear. Almost everything in game is meant to be crafted or found by the players. Do not expect it to be like asian mmos where you can preview what your character will look like at "endgame", since there is no "endgame" planned, and every character archetype can wear any armor and use any weapon. With the liberal application of cosmetic skins in the game, a characters appearance will have absolutely nothing to do with what abilities they might have. Attack that poor Tinker walking the road between towns and find out underneath that magic glamour he is a fighter wearing high tier plate that eats your ganking soul and continues his leisurely stroll.
  • Thanks Unknown for the comment sounds good
  • @Sw684 I totally agree.
In fact I prefer having 'Normal or peasant 'looking gear for  the majority of the characters life-cycle  with just small steps in gear aesthetics, like a gem here, a golden surface there or silk clothes here .
What breaks the immersion for me is a world populated by god like figures with glowing eyes and their hair on fire  running around on their undead ice breathing horse mounts.  I like Humble gear!!!

I would love to be in a world where if I laid eyes on a player with glorious armour, too immediately know he is one of the most powerful in Verra or has done seriously epic quests that only a few could do, that would be awesome.....great topic by the way
  • I take you back all the way to Final Fantasy XI.   Grinding Dynamis week after week for 2 pieces of gear to make my TaruTaru White Mage look the part he was destined to play because how can you be a Final Fantasy White Mage with out the white and red cloak and hood?

I do agree that the look of gear has to make you feel immersed with the game, but as Unknown said, there will be so many different looks to people, everyone will be unique.

I will say in the current game I'm playing Archeage, a lot of the gear looks terrible.   No wonder why they have a costume system.   People just cover up those horrible outfits with things that artists actually cared about.
  • Epic and great looking is subjective, I'd always want a wooden bow as a ranger. For example. But I get what you mean. I would hope that gear isn't actually all that important, so I can make a set that I find cool. Be it starter, mid or highest level. Or a mixture of the lot.

I tend to go for more simplistic looks, and I find those types a lot more enjoyable to watch and wear. I just hope that gear won't have too many stats on them and don't account for too much of your hps dps tps or damage taken
  • I do also like simple look / design makes feel more real I love the look of the ranger it perfect not over the top I would probably paint the whole bow black :)

Just start of as a scrub so to say is the best way.

Make the game hard in a way, cause nowdays its just to easy. Its fun and rewarding if you really have to try for something. I think ashes is going that way to. Thank god.
  • Gear should properly evolve, and have a defined material it's made from in many games there are steel looking armors worse than a leather tunic...
