When will the game be released?
There are 4 alphas currently known:
[NDA] Alpha 0 is on December 15, 2017.
Alpha 1 available on December, 2018. Alpha 2 available on 2018 (Will become PTS)
Beta and PTS on 2019
Live Launch on 2019 - 2020
Alpha 2 is aimed for late 2018/ early 2019. Still in the early stages of development so depending on progress it could be sooner or later~ Alpha 2 is persistent so once it begins it will run up till launch. After launch Alpha 2 servers will become public test servers as already mentioned by @Tuberosity ^^
Alpha 2 is out sometime during Q4 this year. (estimated)
Incorrect, that's the ETA of alpha 1.
Incorrect. ETA of alpha is "2018", and betas in "2019". So also A2 is estimated to be in this year...
ETA of A1 is Q3-Q4.
We might even get beta in this year, if all goes well:
That's a misquote from prior to their development plan, it is also not accurate information.
Source for your statement? It is used among the wikis as well. Unless Intrepid has specified later that this exact quote is not correct anymore, then it is.

I'll wait to hear this week during PAX, considering it's all ETAs and subject to change.

Discord FAQ
You don't really play Alpha you more test it and try to break it.
Those who purchase the Alpha access packages are doing it to support the development of Ashes and to participate in the testing process.
It's not 'Early Access' to actually play a (more or less) finished product; it's to grab a rope and lend a hand.
