  • You act as though people who have access to alpha and beta will be hoarding information they have learned to themselves, many will be making guides and contributing to wikis for the benefit of all.

And many will be harvesting a long list of private exploits to ensure they win wherever they can.
Not a single guild or community in this game will have a totally air tight grip on communication.

    Information always gets out. Always.

The only sure fire way for two people to keep a secret is if one of them is dead.

Oh the dirty little secrets come out eventually. Once they have done immense damage to the community. It was amazing the amount of content creators and 'respected' leaders of the game who turned out to be blatant cheaters in ESO so they could maintain their 'status'. Then, to rub salt on the wound, they just got a slap wrist.

    Just call me Jaded ;)
  • Playing earlier is in fact an advantage over anyone else who starts later. That goes the same for someone who starts 1 year after launch having an advantage over someone who starts 2 years after launch. Even though the person playing a year before the other has paid a sub that whole year, does not make the game a "pay to win."

Sure, there is an advantage to being in the know before someone else. That does not automatically equal pay to win. You're not paying for an advantage you're paying for play time.

As for alpha/beta's, those are test environments (at least in this case, ie. no persistent early access). If you want into those environments to play the game before others for an advantage, I think you will be disappointed.

    Information is power.

If I gain early access over the masses because I pay for that ability I learn the mechanics of the game, the geography of the game world, and quality loot mob locations.
I will have a huge advantage over those whose first exposure is game launch.
Sorry to say but you have no idea what real pay to win means. Huge advantage, I dont think so after 2 days it will be common knowledge. The statement you make of quote: Information is power. Yes thats true but your not going to have it for too long.

Congratulations on the earliest, "The sky is falling" post I have ever seen. If you are already complaining about this game then you just shouldn't play it. If you don't like the way P.C. MMO's, especially crowdfunded ones, build and release their games you should go and play console games. Nearly every MMO in the past 20 years has had some sort of early access to the game. I and I am sure everyone else is sick of the "Pay to Win" babies crying about every single decision the developers make. Do everyone a favor and either, A. Keep it to yourself or B. Don't play.

Not true you can still torture the one who is still alive. The secret is safe once both are dead.

  • This is by far not the earliest post concerned with the game or trying to alter definitions to claim pay to win. So far, there is a thread like this at least once every three months. Although OP is concerned and their definitions might not make sense to others, encouraging them not to play or to not voice their opinion is not the best route of discourse.

Welcome to the great Ashes Community!
  • Doesn't really matter anyway.

I'm going to be sharing every scrap of information I get from Alpha 1 onward like I do in Archeage.

    Ashes 101 FTW.

I know you have valid concerns and I’m sure you want the best for the game. However; I don’t think giving early access to the game matters, and I wouldn’t label it as P2W because their will always be players who will join the game later. Two years after the launch of the game their will always be players who will be behind with regard to your worries, Jorev.  It’s a good thing we have a community of players who benefit new players who don’t have knowledge of the game by providing information they’ve gathered to us. Early access shouldn’t be viewed as something bad rather something beneficial to players who are lost, seeking answers to their questions etc. early access shouldn’t matter because their will always be players who take advantage of exploits. I’ve played MMOs for nearly 10 years as well and I remember there was never such a thing as early access. Exploits still happened, players coming into the game with minuscule information about the game still happened. Selfish players seeking their own gratifications still happened. I remember participating in closed betas and when the game officially launched people still took advantage of information they gathered while testing the game from different stages. Players were still at a disbenefit regardless of early access.

Tldr; Bugs will still happen. Exploits will still happen. Information and lack there of among players will still happen.  All your worries will still happen regardless of early access or not in my humble opinion.
  • god i swear some people just look for something to complain about.

what about the people that come in and start tio play the game a year after release.. you have been playing since release they havent.. does that mean you have an advantage as well over them ?

or should we just not sell the game past the launch day to make it "fair" for all the snowflakes.
So out of fairness..after launch day if you havent bought the game..then too bad you cant buy it anymore..because well you might have a "P2W" advantage of playing the game before another person bought it..and that wouldn't be fair..because as we know in todays way of thinking.. we wouldnt want that now would we.

So shouldn't the fair solution be that anyone who wants to volunteer to test be allowed to do so without paying? Alternate ways to raise more monies would be by increasing the subscription rate and or charging for initial game accounts.
there will be open betas so, and there is not really a way to learn any mechanics in this stage xD

Even if it was, mechanics are learned fast af.
