How Will AOC Introduce Players to the Game, Tutorials and Such...

You know how MMO's generally have similar if not the same basic sequence of quests to introduce you to the basic game mechanics, i.e. Movement, Combat and such. The only diffence is the starting location of the race and a little different wording.
Now finally to my point.
Will AOC have different and unique ways of introducing the base mechanics for different races, such as using the cultural and native differences to introduce these mechanics. For example say a Avian race that live high in the mountains may have participate in a race across clifftop passes to introduce movement. The high-speed competition across looping drops with a misty atmosphere suit the races floaty and fun personality.

Comments

  • Since most of the characters are said to be entering through one of the various Divine Gates it is possible it might be a disorientation kind of tutorial. Think the start to Halo: Combat Evolved where you woke up out of Cryo and then had to work through movement and given a base idea of function.

It is also possible that we will get staggered menus, options, and various UI tools so that we are not overwhelmed by all UI and operations as soon as we load in.
  • Staggered menus through the first few quest/areas are a great tool to walk new players through the mechanics, but if the devs do do something like that, I hope that they also include the option to disable that function for players who are not new to the game.

Would be nice to work with veteran mentors to enable training up specialist skills...other than trial and error. Seems more fitting for a PvX game.

Let players become specialists and untrained players in their skills become apprentice.

This is similar to a mechanic in another Kickstarter game, Chronicles of Elyria and I always found it pretty interesting.

You start as a novice and you gain your first experience with a new skill either through books or watching another playing doing the skill, then as an apprentice you can progress a skill by practicing and using that skill to get better.

When you're better with the skill you can start teaching players of a lower skill than yourself which benefits both them and yourself with a certain level of experience.

Mmm yea i completely forgot that they were going to throw us into the game through a big portal hahaha. It would still be nice if the tutorials were slightly themed towards the area they're in though.
  • i think if your race got unique skills then you will get an Special tutorial for this but for the same skills like movement you maybe will get diferent  Locations or diferent creeps to farm

    My oppinion

I don't think that they are going to simply have the same tutorial for each portal. I think that the regions the portals are in are going to dictate a difference in appearance if not in mechanical delivery.

But since the game is aimed at being faction-less and the world has not yet been developed due to players first re-entering Verra it would be strange to have them be too different.

    NOW...

What might be amazing is if the as time goes on and they receive feedback on the tutorial if they update not only the mechanical instruction but also the story or the lore for the area. If during the first few months it is pretty standard but then after their first quarterly update and made at intervals after that they include world details, make reference to large cities, or even comment that they heard about a Dragon to the South and that some of their whelps even made it this far as a way to teach you dodging fire mechanics.

That would be crazy and innovative!

YESSS that would be amazing!!!!!! I really hope they implement something like that.
  • How about it @GMSteven, a living tutorial might be something that helps draw in new players and keep them informed and engaged from first click?

I liked how SWG allowed you to train other players in a new skill if they met the xp requirement for it, and you had the skill learned already.  It added just a little extra layer of player interaction that was great when out exploring.
