Store - Sky's Vengeance (Mount)

Hi,

I searched for this but couldn't find anything else on it.  I see on the new store there is this mount called Sky's Vengeance (Mount) with the description death from above....

Does this mean there are flying mounts in the game?

There are flying mount's ingame however only dragon's have true flight and they are restricted to leader's of a node, king's/Queens of a castle, and rare world boss drops etc.

the rest of the winged mount's "glide"
    http://www.aocwiki.net/Mounts#Flying_Mounts_.28Dragons.29
  • It will likely glide, not fly. They have already stated nunerous time just how dare and exclusive flying mounts will be in-game.
  • Need to drive home that the only flying mounts with actual flight are limited to 0.001% of a server population. 5 current metropolis mayors (which means a loooong way down the line after launch due to the amount of time it takes to level a metro) and 5 pvp castle leaders get a dragon to use while they control that node or castle. Once they lose control of the node or castle, they lose the dragon. So 10 years down the line you don't have an increase in the number of people with a dragon. You just have a number of people who may have controlled a dragon at some point. With a concurrent server population goal of 8-10k that means 10 people/populations, so around 0.001%. Everything else with wings, depending on the creature you threw the skin on may or may not hover or glide from a high point to low point.
  • I personally prefer glide mechanics to actual flight anyway, it requires more thinking.

I used to love gliding to Freedich in Archeage.
  • Actual flight kind of kills the exploration aspect of the game, so most 'flying' mounts are in fact capable of 'glinding' or short flight etc. :3

Outside though ~10 people: You can get dragon eggs. Although it is a time limited dragon, still is a dragon.

    Also incredibly rare to obtain.

Will link the egg quote right after this. Indeed there may be more than 10 people with a dragon at one time. Let's go a bit crazy and say the droprate is insanely easy for people to get an egg after killing a specific world boss. So then they hatch the egg and have the mount for a limited time. Do you really see them giving what has been said to be a mount with a lifespan any longer than what they give the people that have achieved mayor of metro or guild leader of pvp castle? No, most likely will be a mount that dies after a month also. Add another 10 people in a month that have found egg drops. That kicks the rate of people maybe flying around to........0.002%. Either way you want to argue it, flying is going to be incredibly rare. Which was the point.

And thanks to @Shunex for messaging me with the latest quote on this that I didn't have in my handy rolodex.

  • When will be learn not to challenge our man @UnknownSystemError

    Sit down, kids.
  • Cool thanks all, very informative.

I am glad that there wont be "true" flying mounts, at least not for everyone.

Forums are always very insightful, glad we could help!
  • Forget the mount, give me wings to glide with. One of the things I like about the Demon Hunter in WoW.
  • Nope nope nope. let's not fly. I feel like having unrestricted access to high points is going to kill exploration very fast. and besides, the mage's floating shield becomes useless.

Of course, and that's a good thing. I'm happy flying is going to be rare! As for me, I was never arguing, just pointing out that it may be more than 10 people on a server with a dragon.. Even though it will still be very, very rare.
  • Can't wait to acquire my first Dragon
