Risks at fishing, and pulling up a monster?

I am hoping fishing gets done right in AoC. Not everyone does it, but it's a great past the time social event.

Poles should be made by players, maybe people that make bows and/ or carpentry items. The raw martials should run from common to rare, and give special perks to the owner of the fishing pole.

Now having said this much, should we run the risk of pulling up monster type fish? If your the best of fishing in the game, IMO there should be that risk.

I know we might get a few boots and some tossed out items along the way too, but pulling up a monster would be something I want mounted on my Inn's wall.

  • I love that idea!!!!
I dabble in fishing a bit for the social aspect and having a chance to pull up a monster is amazing.

I hope they do up the fishing and sailing aspects like in black desert.
  • Pirates will be enough risk, Mutiny is coming for you fisherman
  • We will very likely run the risk of pulling up mobs while Fishing.
We've already seen a precedent for fighting off mobs disguised as mushrooms and plants.
  • Mobs coming up while fishing would be a good way to spice it up. Steven has mentioned that he wants fishing to be something that is more interactive than something than is done while "afk"

Saw the title of the post and laughed and smiled at eh same time a great Idea :)

Could even be getting pulled into the water and dragged to some crazy under water adventure.

Getting dragged in by a  beautiful Mermaid is never a bad thing. Unless maybe its like the TV show Sirens lol, first contact like that could land you as food on the menu.
  • How about instead of just pulling mobs from the water the mob also has a chance to pull you? have some kind of underwater combat where you have a time limit to kill a monster or you run the risk of losing oxygen and dying.

@Xombie  As much as I like the idea - what profit is there in killing fisherman?  Or are you trying to become PETA pirates?

Acquiring the cargo and selling it ourselves, as long as there are incentives for Piracy like in AA.
  • I love the idea of a chance to agro some deep slumbered aquatic beast while fishing. I usually don't waste time fishing in games but this would convince me to do so in Ashes.

As for the pirate angle, my fishing would be done on the shore or a dock. Not a fishing boat. I think I would be able to see pirate zombies coming from quite a distance and just casually walk away. As for looting me, sure, if I go down in PvP for a couple trout that would be a slight win/win situation for me.
  • reminds me of the time I accidentally reeled in a kraken and wiped my party in final fantasy XI.....fishing hasn't been the same since then.
